So we're going to invade Iran too? Why?

Don't worry Cindy, our people know what they are doing.

Thanks for the replies, I understand what everyone is saying, (though I disagree with The Senator about nukes and a CBG but that's another discussion) my quibble I suppose is, a WWII battlegroup would have multiple carriers and battleships, as well as heavy cruisers and all the other small boys at least late in the war. The WWII carriers carried more airplanes eventhough those planes were less capable than a current carriers outload, I can see giving the edge to today here, but I've been on a DD and FFG chasing you guys on and flying on to those carriers and the only weapons we had were 2 5" guns and 60 Tomahawks on a DD, and a 3" gun on a FFG. Even considering the Tomahawks whose range is nice, the throw weight of a few 3 and 5 inch gun compared to the 20mm, 40mm, 3in, 5in, 8in, 14in, and 16in tubes that were in the fleet during the Second World War makes me bring up the apples and oranges thing. I mean I know some of the things a modern CBG can pull off, but everything combined over 5 years of fighting in two theaters.

Finally, an aside someone mention land artillery attacking a carrier, the only time a carrier should be in sight of land is transiting the Suez, or mooring. IMO

Have a great weekend.

Not so.

A few wars, and countless deaths have been prevented from no more than the emotional effect of the sight of one of our carriers sitting on the horizon.

Kind of a "Do you feel lucky, punk?" kind of thing.

Are there any battleships with those tubes in active service?

No the 4 Iowa Battleships are out of active service. The Missouri (I believe) is on Battleship Row at Pearl Harbor, you can see her and the Arizona on Google Earth, pretty neat.

I usually don't respond to DNC talking points but in this case here goes.....

Taking out Iran's nuclear capabilities and establishing fledgling democracies in Iran's border neighbors is essential for GLOBAL peace, not just good for the US.

Europe is at risk but unable to respond as vehemently as we can because they have such a huge population of Muslims. In order to prevent uprisings they have to exhibit restraint. BUT THEY ARE AT RISK.

Israel is absolutely at risk of extinction but unable to properly respond due to the media villification it endures every time it tries to defend itself against Hezbollah, or Hamas, or the Palestinians, ALL SATELLITE MILITIAS OF IRAN. For that you can blame libs and the UN as well as radical politically correct types who will eventually cause the destruction of Western Civilization just to prove they care for the "little guy" (the little guy who wants us dead BTW).

Whether you like it or not we are the world police. It is a responsibility that comes with being the Superpower and be assured that we are the only Superpower in history that uses it's power for good in this world. The only one who rebuilds country's after wars and makes them better countries. (Ask Germany and Japan about the long term effects of war with the US. My guess is that they will feel it was positive in the long run for their people). Rest assured that history has proven it was good for US to go into those countries too. As well as a righteous cause at the time.

Asking anyone here why we should go to war to overthrow the crazy mullah theocracy in Iran is like seeing a gunman go into a preschool and saying "Why shouldn't we let him go in there, my kids don't go to this school".

Baztab also said that "if the presence of US navy ships in the Persian Gulf turned into a real threat for the Islamic Republic then the region's oil pipeline would explode, as would mines in the Hormuz Strait (a key shipping route for oil) when oil tankers pass through so as to make the price of oil double or triple."

Translation, don't hassle us or we'll kill this puppy.
