By the Government of Japan, in response to North Korea's threat earlier today to treat 'severe sanctions' as a defacto 'declaration of war'.

Their airforce is weak and far too dependent on the US.

Their Navy is first rate. I don't know much about their army, it's small...but is it modern and can they fight?

They have made similiar threats in the past that gave the clear impressions that they were talking about wreaking havoc via sabotage and acts of WMD terror within Japan. They said that they could respond to threat nations to them not necessarily by missile attacks, but in equally potent ways.

American In Tokyo is my friend, reference a post where gain the inference otherwise.

"had the USA gone hard after Kimmy instead of Iraq- that Saddam might've stepped up his meddling in Palestine/Israel, or who knows what over there."

The fact is we had a few guys that had to go down, and there was no easy way to do it. As soon as either Kim or monkeyboy in Iran is gone this will get ALOT easier.

I expect Japan or S.Korea to supply the bulk of the troops. We'll probably provide naval and air force backup. Why? I think we're headed for war with Iran and our troops in Iraq are crucial.

I agree we're headed for war with Iran - so who do you think will join with them other than North Korea?

Boils down to our being in Iraq is to....

Could be just as simple as that. But you know, as FUBAR as the entire world is right now, I'm just not sure there's anything other than Whack-a-Mole going on in the Whitehouse!

How in the world could you devise an overall strategy (or doctrine) that could coherently address all the chaos that's going on now?

I for one, wouldn't want my nephew growing up to be President these days!

A North Korean can be trained to pass as a Japanese IMHO. I(And they do have such a specific tradecraft school for this up in DPRK). As long as they don't open their big trap.

Unless they were born and raised in Japan as a zainichichosenjin, then they are liable to be discovered once they talk.

It starts with the very Korean accented "arigado-gojaimaz" way of saying thank you that alerts a true Japanese they are not Japanese. When I heard spy Kim Hyun Hi (the DPRK female bomber of the KAL flight sent out by Kim Jong il to do the deed) after she was captured and interviewed for Japanese TV, I can see how she maybe passed herself off as a Japanese when caught be Dubai authorities, but if I were in that room I would have known she was Korean in five seconds. It was when the Japanese authorities arrived to talk to her that they got it right away. Very very think Korean accent. Other than that, physical characteristics can be about the same. Give them a "Hello Kitty" bag and it will work for awhile I suppose.

It is said that Dear Leader Kim Jong il and Great Kim Il Sung went into an enormous argument. So much so that the old man's heart gave out 'on the spot' and he croaked right there. It is said Kim Jong il was the cause.

This often comes out, with or without Cass Beer.

Good question...I would think Chavez will shut all supply to US once we engage Iran. Wouldn't surprise me if there are Hezbollah terrorists stationed in Cuba due to Chavez's work with the Iranian nut. Syria will get involved.

possible terorist attacks within Japan by North Korean agents already in place

This is very worrisome. Thank you for posting on it.

You said -- "I thought you were asking what China is trying to prevent concerning the Japanese military. The answer to that question is nuclear weapons."

Well, I thought China was working on preventing Japan's "build-up" -- several steps *before* ever getting to nuclear weapons. I thought China was thinking in more conventional terms (not nuclear weapons). At least that is what it appears to me.

I think, not only *China* but also the *U.S.* would be opposed to Japan having nuclear weapons -- and thus -- that would probably *never* happen.

Star Traveler

Everything I've read has been about preventing Japan's need for their own nuclear arsenal. That also goes for S.Korea and even Taiwan.
