Friday Night Fights: Conservative Woman KOs Bill Maher and Ben Affleck
Newsbusters ^ | Oct 15, 2006 | staff

is quite doubtful that HBO’s Bill Maher knew what he was in for when he scheduled Danielle Pletka of the American Enterprise Institute to be on his "Real Time" panel Friday night. After all, with CNN’s Lou Dobbs and liberal actor Ben Affleck surrounding her, it seemed highly unlikely the lone conservative in the discussion would survive the scrum, let alone win the debate. However, not only did Pletka hold her own, but she also ended up schooling Maher and Affleck on a virtual plethora of geopolitical issues making this one of the more enjoyable Friday Night Fights in recent memory (video link to follow).

This is a little unfair. There were only 3 liberal weenies against one conservative women. Next time Mahr needs to invite some more liberals to help him. Maybe he can get Al Franken. I hear he is looking for work.. /sarcasm

The first lesson came when Affleck had the gall to suggest that Iran and North Korea “became more evil after” President Bush made his Axis of Evil speech during the 2002 State of the Union address (emphasis mine)...

Well they did, let's be honest about it. The president said we would not sit back and allow the North Koreans test a long range missile. They tested one. The president said we would not sit back and watch North Korea become a nuclear power. It appears that the did. The president said we would not let Iran become a nuclear power. They're pressing ahead full bore to become one.

I watched the show. If winning means that Pletka shouted as loudly as Mahr and Affleck then she won. Did she convert anyone? No, but then again it's always a liberal audience so neither did Mahr.

Good for her! We need someone like her in a visible position in our government to make these points to the American people (and the rest of the world, for that matter).

She won't be invited back. That transcript is something else. She bitchslapped Maher and dismissed Affleck.

The sad fact is, these "debates" happen on entertainment shows. They should be happening in prime time between senators and congresspeople who have these facts on hand, and can let the American people know the reality of our world, without all this PC MSM "well, that's your opinion, but Edward Said's ghost believes otherwise, and he's smart" or whatever.

Americans are uninformed because the media is unwilling to risk losing audience share by putting this stuff out there regularly, as part of their responsibility to the public. People would rather watch Lost than learn about our world, but they will then bitch for four years about how "the government isn't doing enough to educate our children".

If every American spent four hours per election cycle researching the facts about the issues, Republicans would have nothing to fear from the Democrats, ever.

Well they did, let's be honest about it.

I think the point being made by Danielle is that had President Bush not called them the 'Axis of Evil', these two countries would still be doing everything they are now doing. Of course, that can't be proven but her point about North Korea developing their nuclear capability and not participating in talks was done in the 90's. It's a good bet we'd be where we are today had he not called them the Axis of Evil.

Hey--watch the video link. She really does "bitch slap" Maher at the end with the "UN ass" comment. He really was reeling, and she really was POed.

Affleck was there as a ventriloquist's dummy. He was in so far over his head.

I watched it. Conclusion - Ben Affleck is a moron. He really believes that because Bush called N. Korea and Iran evil - then the became evil. If only Bush had used nice words, Iran and N. Korea would be nice. WHAT A MORON.

Well they did, let's be honest about it.

No.  They didn't.  Take off your DBM inspired blinders.  They were just as evil before the speech, but the DBM was ignoring them, as was the Clinton administration throughout the 90s.  But they were just as evil.

All that happened was that things they had been working on for a very long time came to fruition.  Buying into the DBM "Bush made them bad" idea is foolish and contributes to the evil that they do.  Don't be an enabler of evil by commission or omission and certainly don't believe anything they say about the world out there.

Our congress has become a habitat for the lowest common denominators, dreggs of American society.

I agree. It's pretty sad when our so-called representatives go on talk shows that are run by comics and actors just to try to appease a bunch that will never vote for them anyway.

How can anyone argue with liberals who put forth irrational hysteria! And Affleck with his brain dead liberal mantra "we are making them more evil!" Good Lord! These people are morons!

Danielle Pletka was excellent but had to keep talking over moonbat talking points which is a futile to combat.
