For inspiration in building a new brand of Canadian conservatism, Harper looked to Washington, where Rep. Newt Gingrich, R-Georgia, was promoting a combative style designed to shatter the longtime Democratic grip on the U.S. House of Representatives.

Should read an American Liberal complaining that the Canadian Liberals lost.

It ain't over until Election Day. Hopefully, the left won't be winning the only poll that counts.
You should always know what your eney is up to. Who its been talking to, who its friends are. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.
Of course the supporters of the left are waiting in the wings. They are waiting for some sort of slip up by Stephen Harper. I do not think it will come. He knows all about the Canadian press.
For myself, the lasting picture, I have of Liberal Jean Chretien as a Prime Minister,is not a pleasant one. He called himself "the little guy from Shawinigan". A poor devil who was unemployed, thrust his way in front of Chretien.
Chretien put a terrible choke hold on the man- a frail one at that. The man went down. Chretien had a twisted evil look on his face. No charges. Then we had Paul Martin next.
I would rather have Stephen Harper as a leader.
My bad. It is rasblue whom I should thank. Still, nice polite comment on your part to the latter.
PING!
friend I simply am stunned at the lack of comprehension of the American folks regarding the War issue. I vascilate between believing the polls are all wrong or in the alternative, the folks simply don't realize the severity of the danger that the country is facing. Can you imagine ANY of the Democrats running the country at a time like this? God forbid!! CO
I forgot. I apologize and it will never happen again. I don't understand though what the problem is with posting the article though. I feel Americans should know what left-wingers are up to in Canada.
I have no problem with this kind of thing being posted if it includes a barf alert.
After all, this is a conservative site, and we stick together against the loony left.
Right???
You mean that Xenophobic ClazzmaTrappingwuzfurstingalingualAmericanistaBUll is actually making inroads into the Canuski Conswervative Icon via prentended understanding of Canada as quintessential Moon Batty Haven?
Look Out, the earth is flat and you might drop off the edge at the 49th parallel!
Abandon ALL hope ALL you conswervatives who enter here??
I agree.
Before Americans put their foot in their mouths, they could at least wash them. Then I might actually also have a clean laugh. As it is now, I laughed so hard that my computer $hit itself!
Canada is full of conservatives, the liberals have just been better at grabbing the microphone, until recently, that is.

..........is way too much to fit into a tag line!!
LOL!
Yup, the old Barf Alert would have clarified your position. I am glad to know of the spite of the lefties, yeah Rabble. I saw the writer's smear by association. Joker is, that maybe some Canadians would be quietly flattered, that American big guns were advising Stephen Harper.
He is faced with the enemy, the cleverest political animals ever- Liberals. LOL
RIGHT
As usual in my slapdash way, I charged in regardless. I then did what I should have done and read the whole article by Mr Fricker.
This hurts to say it but..... the man did put some actual information. This does educate people as to the the whys and hows of the rise to power, of Stephen Harper. His snide views and anti-Republican comments- are just that. He gets a medal from his bosses.
Having a glass of Hiram Walkers Special Old makes me feel better, plus clearing the air. LOL
Let me try to put this into context.
The struggle between liberals (and Liberals) and conservatives (and Conservatives) boils down to one basic issue which is that those on the leftist end of the political spectrum are essentially fascists, in that they believe in building an ever-increasing and expanding government, and under the guise of "helping" society, they actually seek to CONTROL society and mold those within it to their leftist, atheistic, socialist-style point of view.
Now conservatives on the other hand, while not always embracing the idea that "the best government is the smallest government", generally believe that in any society, the rights of the individual are supreme and must be preserved from the massive power of the government. Instead of massive spending programs which dole out cash to favored groups and special interests, conservatives generally believe in reducing the taxation upon society (both personal and business) because as Ronald Reagan himself once said, "if you want less of something, you tax it, if you want more of something, you subsidize it" and the fact that conservatives have proven the principle many times that reducing taxes results in INCREASING government revenues, Reagan's wise words become unassailable.
In the United States, the Democrat ('Rat) Party has been slowly but firmly subverted and converted from a once great political party which was socially liberal but still responsible on the issues of national defense and security, into a subversive organization which has more in common with the social goals of the CPUSA (Communist Party in the USA) and ignorant and indifferent of the threat posed by the Islamofascists and their global jihad against the West. (and a minor digression here, while the Democrats in the U.S. will pay lots of lip service to the global war on terror, what that conflict actually represents to them is an *opportunity* to expand their influence and control over society as a whole, using the theme of "national security" to further their own social agenda and political ends.)
In Canada, the nutty left has traditionally been represented by the NDP (a political party I submit that Lenin himself would have heartily approved of), although the Liberal Party has been increasingly shifting left as well, because their most likely supporters are always going to be found on the left end of the spectrum, because conservatives are quite frankly too intelligent to fall for the con games that the Liberals are notorious for. Liberals think they have a natural birthright to rule Canada. Conservatives believe that Canadians grant the privilege of governing to the political party which deals with them fair and square and keeps their campaign promises.
Quite frankly, the Conservatives in Canada are (IMHO) more conservative than the Republicans in the U.S. at the present time.
OK, early rant off - time for more coffee. ;)
