This is a batle that wasn't worth fighting. By demanding that his groceries be returned to the shelves, this happy gun toting guy gained nothing and gave the image that all gun owners could be as anxious for an argment as he is.

If Mr. Gun Toter can't shop at Costco now, it is his loss, not Costco's ...

The same folks who insist on "no guns" in their stores probably have Wellstone signs in their yards.

All this guy did was post an item so that we could be more fully informed of a company's policy so that we could decide if we wished to do business there. If this is not of interest to you then simply 'move along', there is no need to attack the message bearer

Actually its Costco's. Costco is there to sell their products to people like him and I.

Their service sucks, their stores are ugly, and their prices are higher than regular stores.

On top of all this they make deals with local governments to acquire land through forced sale of private property. One example is a city refused a church a building permit. Bought the land for under market cost, and then sold it to Costco for $1. Their goal was the increased taxes.

I agree that Costco has the right to make rules concerning the conduct of customers on their premises, but it is also the right, and the responsibility, of citizens to inform management when a company's policy is wrong.

I hope you will reread the entire article and contact Costco. Their policy informs any half wit bank robber that Costco is a place where the bad guys can do as they please. A robber will not stop at the door because a sign says, "No Handguns Allowed." While Costco may not give a whit about the lives of its employees, the customers who have undergone the process to obtain a concealed weapon permit ought to be able to protect themselves from an armed attack while shopping there. Saying nothing will never change their policy, nor will it change the attitude of antigunners who think gun - free zones are a good idea.

Hmm. Costco's customer base - "Mr. Gun Toter" = one less Costco customer in Costco's customer base.

No, I do believe your math is faulty. The loss is indeed Costco's.

The math gets worse for Costco. This thread will almost certainly result in the loss of more customers and make other potential customers to decide Costco just isn't the slice of left wing mercantalism they're looking for.

I am sure that Sam's Club would be happy to take the money he is not spending at Costco.

About the only valid way to protest the policies of a commercial enterprise is to withhold your business: I'd have done the same (if I lived in a state/county that even considered carry permits for Joe Average).

Bear in mind that the author was entirely legal, bear in mind also that Costco does have (or should have) the right to set rules; despite the fact that if their rule was "no burkas" they'd be in court by the next week end.

Fighting the anti-gun mentality is very much worth fighting.

By demanding that his groceries be returned to the shelves, this happy gun toting guy gained nothing and gave the image that all gun owners could be as anxious for an argment as he is.

No, he is simply engaging in the time-honored practice of a boycott.

It always amazes me that, here on FR, one of the premier sites on the web for gun wisdom, there are still a few posters who refuse to avail themselves of such.

Really. I guess the black people should not have boycotted all those stores where they were not wanted. The right to keep and bear arms is a constitutional right. Granted the private business at this time can ban me as a customer if I legally carry but I can also boycott them. It is the Amercian way... Who needs Costco. Go to Wal Mart instead when I am welcome with my firearm....

actually he handled it perfectly.

He did not get angry or upset. He just politly asked the worker to taker care of returning the items.

Costco was free to ban gun permit holders. And those permit holders are free to ban costco.

Its a stupid move on costco's part.

svxdave,

Obviously, you don't get it. You don't understand the principle of voting one's beliefs and principles with one's dollars. However, happily for you, that your privilege....
