My mother and auntie love marmite on toast. I can't stand the smell and refuse to even try to eat it. Ick!
Now on the other hand I love anchovy paste on toast with mushrooms. My husband and daughter eat it but my son refuses to even try.
He said the worst thing on the tea table when he was in England was Patum Peperium (Gentleman's Relish)....anchovy paste. I love that stuff!

That's silly.
I bet if we would get to the bottom of this, it would turn out it's some Dem minion is engaging in some powerplay. President Bush has better things to do, than worry about banning Vegemite.

This stuff is really revolting. I "billeted" with families for two summers (winters, there) while singing in Australia. Couldn't bear to eat that stuff.
Oh, the horrors of cuisine australienne!

I saw a brewery piece that showed the yeast remains in a pressed filter.
Brewer: "...and we sell this biproduct as animal feed."
Show host: "Can humans eat it?"
Brewer: "Sure."
Brewer: "But I don't."

I tried that stuff once. Once was enough. It's amazing that they could ruin salt by mixing it with whatever else Vegemite is made of.

Vegemite is some great medicine for morning hangovers for foreigners in AU. Once the first bite hits your tongue, you have a "Am I eating salty beer vomit?" moment, and all the other ills you have fade away in comparison.I think there's a lot of truth behind it's effectiveness. If it's what I think it is, it's full of vitamin B and other good stuff that does relieve hangovers and "other ills".
I've never tried it, so I can't account for the taste.
I hope this isn't another "koran meets toilet" like event between good friends. ; )
