CNN's decision to air a video showing snipers targeting U.S. troops in Iraq provoked both rage and praise yesterday, with some calling it a brave move by the cable network and others labeling it a propaganda coup for terrorists.
“This is nothing short of a terrorist snuff film,” said Rep. Brian Bilbray, R-Carlsbad. “I think CNN should recognize it made a terrible mistake and pull it.” Bilbray, Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Alpine, and Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Vista, sent a letter to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld asking him to yank any CNN reporters embedded with U.S. troops in Iraq.
“They don't deserve to be with American Marines and soldiers,” said Hunter, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, at a news conference he and Bilbray held yesterday in downtown San Diego. CNN “can't decide which side they're on.”
Jeffrey Dvorkin, executive director of the Committee of Concerned Journalists in Washington, said CNN “did an important journalistic job in reporting this.”
“It's enormously important that Americans have a very clear sense of what our military is going through in Iraq,” Dvorkin said. “It's one of the better pieces of war reportage I've ever seen.”
A Defense Department spokesman yesterday declined to comment on the issue.
The cable channel began airing portions of the chilling video Wednesday night on “Anderson Cooper 360,” after what a network official described as an intense internal discussion over its news value.
“Whether or not you agree with us in this case, our goal, as always, is to present the unvarnished truth as best we can,” wrote CNN producer David Doss in a blog entry about the taped footage, which was still available on CNN.com last night.

These are the same assh*les who says the American public should not be shown graphic images of 9/11 victims jumping from burning towers, helpless prisoners being beheaded by terrorists, or images of the three Indonesian 13 year old girls who were beheaded a couple of weeks ago by members of the ROP.
Thank goodness we have the Internet & Conservative talk radio to get the facts out or we would have Viet Nam redux.

It would be nice if they showed not only what the terrorists are doing to the military, but what the military is doing to the terrorists and doing for the civilians.
I guess that’s too much to expect from CNN.

I am not surprised he is a "professor". He is a propagandist and nothing more. He certainly is not intelligent or educated.
With Neal Gabler on, this is another Fox program I do not watch.

Fox News Watch is a Sunday program about journalism. This weekend, it demonstrated how not to be a journalist. The star of this dreadful segment was Neil Gabler.
Much of the discussion was on the coverage of the Iraq War. Gabler has frequently demonstrated his bias to the left on this program. This time, he was over the top.
Twice in the course of this discussion he yelled, not merely said,
“Iraq is a DISASTER. Get it? EVERYBODY gets it now.” Therefore, anyone who disagreed with his conclusion, whether a spokesman for the administration, or even anyone on the program including the token conservative on the program, Cal Thomas, is wrong.
Gabler also denigrated the actual progress in Iraq by saying,
“The good news is they painted some schools. The bad news is, anybody who teaches there is going to get blown up.”
There have been two instances of shootings of school teachers in Iraq. That is about equal to the teacher shootings in an average year in the Los Angeles Unified School District. But perspective does not seem to be Gabler’s long suit.
Host Eric Burns tried to bring Gabler back to responsibility by saying:
“You put both of those [stories] out there and let everybody decide how to weigh them.”
Gabler responded,
“Oh COME ON. It’s already BEEN weighed. That would be irresponsible for the press to say [that]. WE KNOW that Iraq is a DISASTER.” [All emphases are in the original.]
Later in the program, in defending Jon Stewart as “the best journalist in America,” Gabler said what we need is “journalism of truth.” Set aside the question of whether Stewart can be labeled as dealing in truth, rather than humor. Apply Gabler’s comment to Gabler. Neal ironically condemned his own comments on this very program.
(I could not locate on the Fox News website either a video or transcript of this program. However, the quotes are accurate from a TiVo of the program.)
Truth does not consist of the conclusion without facts, advanced by the journalist who shouts the loudest. If Gabler’s comment were accurate, all the news media could close their Iraq bureaus and bring their reporters home. Why risk the lives of real reporters to the bombs of the “insurgents,” who are actually terrorists and now are threatening to murder four more civilians, one of them an American? Why do that when a “media writer,” Neal Gabler, in his office in the United States, can provide the conclusions without risk?
Because of his obvious, public violation of the standards of journalism, Neal Gabler should apologize to the others on this program and to its viewers, on the next program. If he does not, Gabler should be dismissed and replaced with another journalist who has a better idea of how journalism should be conducted.

Declare CNN an enemy propaganda arm and Enemy Combatant. Then be done with it - hammer 'em with the full force of the law.

Henry Kissinger was just on Hannity & Colmes reminding Alan Colmes that the reporting of the American loss of the Tet Offensive was WRONG. In fact, the Marines BROKE the VC back during the Tet Offensive.
Bottom line: After this treasonous stunt, I don't expect any commander in Iraq or Afghanistan will be allowing ANY CNN REPORTERS IN HIS UNIT!

O'Reilly was making excuses for CNN while Michelle Malkin was exposing the despicable treason.
Hannity & Colmes had a general and Brent Bozell on.
Only Colmes was on CNN's side...big surprise.

Have they actually forgotten what happened that day in September morning. Are they disregarding all the men and women who have been injured or lost their lives because of Terrorism and the threat to the world.
How disgraceful that the major media outlets - TV or paper do not and will not cover the good and positive actions our men and women are involved in.
