No solution in sight for U.S. gun violence
By Bernd Debusmann, Special Correspondent
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - It's an American way of death. More than 30,000 people die from gunshot wounds every year, through murder, suicide and accidents.
That is an average of 82 a day, and prospects for reducing the toll are dim.
The debate between gun control advocates and the pro-gun lobby was reignited briefly this month by four school shootings between September 26 and October 9.
In one, a man carrying a pistol, a shotgun and 600 rounds of ammunition shot 10 girls execution-style at an Amish school in Pennsylvania, killing five of them, and then killed himself. In another, a 13-year-old took an AK-47 assault rifle to his school in Missouri, pointed it at administrators and other students and fired it into a ceiling.
At a hastily arranged White House Conference on School Safety on October 10, panelists covered topics ranging from metal detectors and school bullies to the value of religious beliefs and good communication between parents and schools.
But the word "gun" was not mentioned until a plucky teenager pointed out to a panel moderated by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales that the common factor was easy access to high-powered firearms. President George W. Bush and his wife Laura Bush attended separate parts of the conference but avoided mention of guns.
"The Bush administration is in complete denial regarding the catalytic role that guns play in school violence," said Kristen Rand of the Violence Policy Center, which like other gun control advocates was not invited to the conference.
"How is it even possible to have a discussion about preventing school shootings without talking about guns?"
Actually, almost all the school shootings have occurred in schools. If we banned school, then there would be no more school shootings.
Better yet, 7 day waiting period on schools.
How about the parents do their job and make sure these kids don't have easy access to guns at home and are smart enough to realize that Rap songs aren't reality. Being a "Thug Gangsta" is tough when you weigh 140lbs in Cellblock C.
How do guns have anything to do with it?
"How is it even possible to have a discussion about preventing school shootings without talking about guns?"
It seems simple to me, you must talk about the criminals who commit these crimes!!!!!!!!
When you want to have storm damage corrected on your house you talk about contractors not hammers.
Hammers and guns are both tools, the discussion has to be about the people who misuse them.
My solution: make firearms as illegal as cocaine, cannabis, and heroin, where ANY posession, use, sale, etc, is totally illegal.
I mean, it works so well with Schedule 1 narcotics it's sure to work for guns too.
Keep these handy:

Gun Facts is a free e-book that debunks common myths about gun control. It is intended as a reference guide for journalist, activists, politicians, and other people interested in restoring honesty to the debate about guns, crime, and the 2nd Amendment.
Gun Facts has 84 pages of information. Divided into chapters based on gun control topics (assault weapons, ballistic finger printing, firearm availability, etc.), finding information is quick and easy.

Quagmire. Clearly the solution is to withdraw to Okinawa. Whoops, I meant strategic redeployment.
But seriously, I know one solution. Make it a felony offense to belong to a street gang. If we have to amend the constitution, so be it. But we know the machismo of Latin and African American street gangs are to blame for gun violence. I doubt Reuters and their liberal friends would go along with that. No, instead they'll advocate violating the constitutional rights or the law abiding as a means of ending the violence begotten by the non-law abiding, none of whom obtain guns legally anyhow.
A criminal may rob you, a criminal may attack you, a criminal may kill you .... but not even the most drug crazed violent criminal or terrorists would dare violate a "Gun Free Zone". It may be the only boundry he will respect.
Speakout: 'Gun-free zones' tempting targets Terrorists and sickos know that the maximum psychological damage any society can experience is graphic brutal violence against children. Some will accuse me of being a "prophet of doom" and cavalierly dismiss me as a fearmonger, but I assure you I am not.

Reuters??
Bingo. I have many guns of all descriptions and they were always locked up until both children came of age to handle and shoot them responsibly.
BTW, I never hears of schoold shootings when I was growing up and was amazed to find out there are cops in schools today.
The left said they learned that gun control was a losing issue and they have been nearly silent about it for 5 years. Now that they THINK they are going to retake congress, the issue re-emerges.
The Violence Policy Center is in complete denial regarding the catalytic role that gun-free school zones play in school violence.

How do guns have anything to do with that?
Only one side had 'em.
Actually there is good news 'bout gangters - mostly they shoot each other!
Hell, that's a quick stop off at the farm to pop some targets...
Eventually the gooberment will require you to have a license for more than a box of bullets
Note that alReuters fails to break that number down. More than half are suicides. And even if one could make guns magically disappear, there's no evidence to suggest that the total number suicides in the US would decline. Also, alReuters fails to mention (Or should I say "covers up"?!) the fact that firearms are used over 2,000,000 times each year in the US to stop violent crimes.
Let's see now... Which is the larger number? 2,000,000 or 30,000?
One might expect reuters to STFU after being caught in so many lies recently. But then, one might not.
Ask the British how safe they feel, now that they've practically but banned all guns!
Sure - except that they tend to shoot each other where lots of innocent bystanders have a propensity to inadvertently get in the line of fire.
300,000+ die each year in hospitals from medical mistakes
Presently 45,000+ people are killed each year in in the US in auto accidents. .
Let's outlaw hospitals, doctors and cars ... /sarc
