My Interview With Michael J. Fox
CBS ^ | 10/26/2006 | Katie Couric

Posted on 10/26/2006 3:24:32 PM PDT by dave k

I’ve interviewed Michael J. Fox several times before – but never quite like this.

After all the controversy and publicity and debate about his political ad, and the criticism he got from people like Rush Limbaugh, he really is in the eye of a political storm right now. But when he came to our studio for our exclusive interview, he was remarkably calm. He was also obviously symptomatic. He trembled uncontrollably, and his legs shook, but he explained it was actually a side effect of not taking enough medication. He told me he reduced his dosage because he didn’t want to have dyskinesia, which is the side effect of too much medication, and which causes the swaying back and forth that was so evident in the controversial ad for Missouri Democratic Senate candidate Claire McCaskill. Fox said that he can never tell from one day to the next how serious his symptoms will be. It’s a crapshoot.

He didn't USE HIS SYMPTOMS for anything...HE SHOWED his disease. JUST DEBATE HIS ARGUMENT. It does nothing but make you look small.

I dont know much about Parkinsons, but having High Blood pressure I know a little about that. When I fisrt started taking medication, I had pretty much those same symptoms ,sometimes too high, sometimes too low, before we found the right dosage

I would imagione Parkinsons is a little like that when they first start the dosage, but it would seem as lo0ng as he has been taking it he pretty much shopuld know the correct dosage. Personally I think maybe he is playing to the camera's for effect.

Okay, you need to go back and read my first post on why appearing without his meds was deceptive.

YES....but what everyone is talking about is the fact Rush said he was faking or acting his symptoms...THAT WAS A MISTAKE.

Saw it, Katie surprised me. She was technically fair. Represented Rush's statements accurately.

Fox was sneaky though IMHO. I don't believe he took too much medication.

What was awful was that the camera panned so many times to a long shot. That was too much like a freak show.

What Fox did do wrong was lie about the amendment in the first place. His disease did not make him lie.

Here, here!!!

Well said.

I posted this morning, but ran into the same arguments you're getting.

I have MS. I take meds. Some days I function really poorly, some days I function well. God forbid that some would try to judge me by how I appeared as to whether I was on or off my meds.

The message was wrong...so say it was wrong.

But the illness is another story. They say he used his illness...he cannot separate himself from his illness.

Should we censor everyone who is ill and keep them from speaking because they have an illness and it might "show." Of course not.

We live in America, he has a right to say what he wants to say.

If he speaks falsehood...then expose the lies.

To be accurate, Michael J. Fox does not say anything about the Cloning amendment, Amendment 2 on the Missouri ballot.

His commercial is an ad for Claire McCaskill for Senate, in which he states that we should vote for people like Claire McCaskill and not vote for Jim Talent, because he wants to criminalize stem cell research.

A complete and utter lie.

Family Lies [Don't look behind the curtain]

A Lib, name of Michael J. Fox,
Goes on tour for the Democrat blocs.
Like a one-man Spin-City
Or a young Walter Mitty
He lies from his on-air soap box.

Michael's a character actor,
But we must not consider that factor.
We may only show pity
On the saint from Spin City.
If we question, we're called a detractor.

"There is a constitutional amendment on the Missouri ballot called Amendment 2. It calls itself the Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative. The Democrat Claire McCaskill favors it. The Republican, Jim Talent, opposes it. Amendment 2 appears by virtue of its title, Stem Cell Research and Cures Initiative to put stem cell research in the Constitution and to ban human cloning, but the fine print creates a right to do somatic cell nuclear transfer which is the scientific term for cloning, the same method used to clone Dolly the sheep!"

This is from Rush's site. The LSM is not talking about the amendment and what it will accomplish if it is passed. That's why the commercial is so deceiving.

Stem cell research is legal in Missouri. Cloning is not!!

The amendment is for good hearted people to be fooled with lies about the Republican candidate.

Uh he did use his disease to play on sympathy and pity. If he didn't want to he would have not have of his own free will made these misleading political commercials.
