I bet when Clinton was President, we had many more inquiries.
Remember all those black helicopters? ;-)
hehehe
But when I answered the door in a speedo and tinfoil hat they just laughed and went away.
It seemed like a weekly event.
For years, I have been curious about my FBI file and what the contents might be. I read years and years ago that you could request a free copy of the contents of your FBI folder although there was a warning: if you don't have a folder, requesting the contents will create one. (Presumably to hold your request.)
I had a friend apply for a job there 15 years ago, and he used me as a reference. They called me 3 or 4 months later. I assumed they checked me out along the way. And then Clinton came along . . . Well, I'm sure that there's stuff saved from the Internet.
I remember those days vividly. But it wasn't like that. I just lurked for a few years before I signed on in 99, so I know how things were back in the dark days. I recall being very impressed at how good FR was at policing its own.
Sure, there were some freepers that sometimes got a little out if line and made threats that were just a little too... uh... realistic. But they were pounced on immediately by other freepers, and in those days, by JimRob himself much of the time. There was always a line not to be crossed. The later changes and added mods made the job somewhat easier to keep up with, but the basic self-restraint has always been a notable feature of FR. That's one of the reasons that I focused so much on FR in those days. It ~wasn't~ totally out of hand like so many other politics discussion boards were. Nevermind how nuts the BBS circuit used to get... but that's another topic.
DU has no such restraint.
I lurked here daily for nearly three years before I "signed up" officially because I was convinced that the Scumbag Administration was entirely capable of finding out who posters were and siccing the IRS on them the way they sicced the IRS on other conservative groups in those years.
You will notice that my official sign-up day is the day Gore finally conceded.
That's the day I finally felt safe from the Scumbag Administration.
I was audited by the IRS.
Anybody else?
Oh yeah - I remember them. So do a few others around here, and we don't want it happening again!
NO HILDABEASTE IN '08, PLEASE!!..............FRegards
I remember the worries. But we never did go overboard like those DU nuts.
