Dear Tirian,

When I went to the link, I saw this:

If Only All the Republicans...

...ran campaigns as sharp as Michael Steele's. Have you ever wondered where the men in the street in "man in the street" campaign ads come from? This is a Ben Cardin ad called "Real People," in which a series of Marylanders identified only by name praise Cardin:

Just plain folks, right? The Steele campaign Googled Cardin's "real people" and put out the results in their own ad:

Well, they're real people all right, but not exactly men (and women) in the street. I've occasionally seen the same thing in wire service stories that include quotes from seemingly randomly-selected people. But when you Google the names, they sometimes turn out to be, say, the chairman of the local Democratic Party.

Steele has run a terrific race against against a mediocre opponent, and I think he's going to win.

PAUL adds: Steele has run a great race and he has a shot. But Maryland is a brutal state for Republicans in a difficult, and potentially brutal year. Meanwhile, in a far less brutal state, Rasmussen has Webb opening up a lead on Allen.

JOHN adds: Yeah, great idea for the Allen campaign to go after Webb's novels. Nothing like keeping your eye on the ball in the closing days of a campaign!

That's it. Where I would have expected to see videos, I see blank space.

Way down to the right are two links: Power Line News; and Power Line Video. But I'm not sure that I'll find there the links about which you're talking.

Thanks,

WAPO has discovered the Dem could lose in Maryland huh? Actually, a number of so called experts and pundits have suddenly woken up to that fact the last couple of weeks.

Perhaps if they had actually watched the RNC convention in 2004 and seen Steele's speech they would have focused on this race much earlier as a real chance of a pickup.

Again, when the pundits and the polsters prove themselves to be better prognosticators then I...I'll listen to them. Until then, I rely on my own judgement and instinct to see through all the spin. And the fact is that Steele is articulate, inteligent, charimatic. He doesn't just adopt a position, he believes in that position and voters can sense that gravity.

I've also batted down the idiots that think monopolies on anything last forever. The Democrat do not "own" the black vote never to be contested again, but then again you don't break a monopoly in one election cycle or two. It takes time, and it takes committment. That committment by the GOP did not begin until 2000. You'e starting to see that monopoly crumble with these endorsements. Of course to truly reverberate Steele is going to have to win, but if he barely loses, this isn't going to end. IMO, he's the odds on favorite by an inch to win at this point though.

Donna Brazille warned of this, and the Dems chose to listen to her by throwing Oreos at Steele and calling him a Bush Republican. They should have listened to her and treated their most loyal voters with some respect instead.

Yes, I have sympathy for them. Because they are treated the same way conservatives are by the GOP. The problem is that we don't yet have a credible alternative, but we will if they keep this up. Blacks in Maryland DO have an alternative finally and I pray they make good use of it.

She's also not a conservative, near as I can tell.

She's conservative on guns and commies, which is a damn good start.

I presume she is conservative on taxes, being a natural extension of her understanding of communism/socialism. And I doubt she would undo any of the massive achievement of GWB on the abortion front, nor appoint more liberal judges.

Macaca was front page news for weeks. This story, definitely worthy of national news coverage, is buried really deep in the Post today. In fact, it is relegated to page B 5, under Prince Georges County. I had to really dig to find it.

I hope there are enough freepers here from the Washington area to really burn up the ombudsman line. 202 334-6000 is the main number. Ask for the ombudsman or any one else. This is outrageous.

Dear billhilly,

"In fact, it is relegated to page B 5, under Prince Georges County."

Really?

That's interesting. I assume you get the hard copy Post to your home. This electronic version is found on page B1, the front page of the Metro section.

Although, if you go to the electronic version of the paper, and go to the front of the Metro section, the headline is buried deep and small. LOL!

A) That's correct.   It's O. Shur.

A) No, U. Shur is my brother.   I'm O. Shur.

B) Oh sure.   Okay.   I wanted to be sure.

A) Bea Shur is my mother.

etc....

She supports abortion, she supports the Palestinians against the Israelis, and we know squat (near as I can figure) how she thinks regarding the economy, judges, and limited government.

Why would anyone promote her knowing so little about her ?

She's a globalist in the US/UN harmony mode.

Being a talking head for Bush and a good study in Soviet policy does not make for presidential materials.

She should go back to the private sector.

Why would anyone who knows so little about me make such an assumption?

She truly understands communism and the purpose of the second amendment, which puts her above 95% of Republicans.

You can spin her abortion views, but please tell me which of GWB's massive achievements on that front you think she would reverse.

I agree, but if RINO Kean replaces RINO DeWine and keeps us over that magic 50-seat mark, I'll take it.

Appointing judges whose views are pro-life, as one example.

Secondly, she supports the same amnesty for illegal aliens as Bush.

Thirdly, she's done a poor job at weeding out liberals at the State Department if the State Departmnt idiot in Iraq is anything to go by. She also thinks Colin Powell was a wonderful SoS - not a good recommendation in my book.

>>Appointing judges whose views are pro-life, as one example.

What judges do you think she would not have appointed? I don't see Bush having appointed any pro-life flag-wavers who were not otherwise qualified as main-stream conservative judges.

>>Secondly, she supports the same amnesty for illegal aliens as Bush.

She works for him. We'll have to see what she really believes when she is no longer an employee.

To me, this is most significant statement:

"Ron Walters, a political science professor at the University of Maryland, said the endorsements could be significant. 'This is going to go through the black community like a rocket,' he said. 'It's going to be the talk of the county, the state, maybe even the nation.'"

We are witnessing the destruction of the RAT party, folks, and this election will announce that to the whole country.
