It was a BAD joke, not a botched one, and it is a familiar liberal theme: People who join the military are either uneducated, stupid, or duped. That's why it escaped his mouth - he thought he was among friends where that message would be accepted, and forgot that he was being recorded.

Exactly...no way I believe this was a botched joke. Knowing the liberal mindset when it comes to the military (educated people don't join), there's no way I can believe this is a gaff.
