Fr. Robert Spitzer speaks at pro-life conference in Vancouver
The last stages of life serve as a vital wrap-up period that provides opportunities for important developments in relationships with family and friends, said Fr. Robert J. Spitzer, S.J., ethics expert and co-founder of the Center for Life Principles, at a B.C. pro-life conference on Saturday. He said the end of life period should never deliberately be cut short. Speaking at the International Pro-Life Conference held in Vancouver Nov. 16-18, Fr. Spitzer identified dominant myths put forward by the pro-euthanasia movement--arguments, he said, that prey on the vulnerable elderly who fear suffering and don't want to be a burden.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. (CNS) -- The presence of Bobby Schindler, the brother of the Florida woman whose plight sparked a national debate on end-of-life issues, gave an added edge to the dialogue at a recent Seton Hall University forum exploring the moral, legal, medical and personal aspects of end-of-life decisions.
The mid-October forum was the first in a new lecture series titled "A Question of Clarity," co-sponsored by the university and the Order of Malta and aimed at clarifying the position of the Catholic Church on today's most debated moral issues.

Thanks, Robert.
Schiavo issue haunts Crist.
I know with repentance we can receive forgiveness for our sins.
Crist doesn't seem to show any repentance for what he did in helping murder this poor young lady.
If he thinks this issue is haunting him now I would hate to think how it will effect him when he arrives in hell.
I will also include all of those in support of abortion.
Abortion and, homosexuality, what an abomination on America?

They are an inspiration in their behavior. It was a privilege to witness their strength and is a worthy goal to emulate them as parents and as Christians.
Tsunamis are known for being huge, unexpected, and very damaging to the established order. What happened on election day may not have been a revolution, but it was more than a tidal wave. The question is: Will Democrats squander this opportunity?
Snip...
We need to stop running away from gay issues, as if they are the kiss of death. In 2004, despite dire predictions of an evangelical avalanche, Democrats picked up five seats in the Michigan House. This year, despite a bottomless pit of money, Dick DeVos could not buck the trend of what Michigan voters want - change! Voters want an end to Terry Schiavo using, marriage banning, race baiting, immigrant bashing, sex scandal burying self-righteousness. The voters have spoken and they mentioned our names.

Sommers also took the opportunity to slam Republicans at the national level for-among other "sins"-their involvement in the Terry Schiavo case, the government's "brain-dead" response to Hurricane Katrina, opposition to stem-cell research and denial of global warming. "But all of this fades in front of the awful Iraq war," Sommers added.

The lobbyist here sees no irony in portraying GLB&T people as "victims" while kicking Terri Schiavo in the teeth. Why would anyone be sympathetic to his cause when he himself is brutalizing the memory of a sweet, innocent disabled woman who was tortured to death?
OK, so give your politician a hundred dollar bill. See if you get any change.
bttt for Haleigh Poutre of Massachusetts and Scott Thomas of Floriduh.
The man who would be King pines that they weren't looking statesman enough.
For some members of both parties, the talk means a return to the middle after years of Gov. Jeb Bush's ideological crusades to enshrine school vouchers in law, battle popular limits on class size and force lawmakers to intervene in the Terri Schiavo matter.
Those efforts split Republicans in the Senate and led to an intra-party brawl for power. With Bush's departure and the arrival of new Gov. Charlie Crist's more populist and moderate style, the party may be more harmonious.
"Let's face it, Jeb had a fairly dictatorial approach. It was his way or no way," said King, whom Bush endorsed over an anti-abortion candidate in a GOP primary this year. King said the resulting battles left lawmakers looking "more like spoiled, petulant children than we do statesmen."

Monnie King's surprisingly funny, touching, thought-provoking and always compelling new play deals with the ethical dilemma faced by adult siblings, Tom, Jenny and Suzanne when their beloved and terminally-ill mother asks them to help her "end it all." Skillfully Directed by Steven A. Chambers and with powerhouse performances from Merry Jo Pitasi, Sarah O'Kelly and PJ King, MOTHER'S GIFT is a fascinating, engrossing and, ultimately uplifting exploration into one of the great ethical questions of our time. No matter how you felt about Jack Kevorkian or The Schiavo family, this is a topic to get passionate about!! You don't want to miss MOTHER'S GIFT.

Gov. Bush looks particularly hypocritical by walking away, just before he leaves office, from a crisis that built on his watch. There was no consensus in the summer of 2003 on medical malpractice reform, yet Gov. Bush called the Legislature into special session three times, trying to ram through his "solution." In October 2003, during the special session to approve state money for The Scripps Research Institute, Gov. Bush forced through the Legislature an unconstitutional law to "save" Terri Schiavo.
Those issues mattered to him. Insurance matters to Floridians. House Minority Leader Dan Gelber, D-Miami Beach, had it right Tuesday when he said: "I totally reject the idea that there has to be 'consensus' on insurance before we start. We don't do that for anything else. We can't wait. Get us up there, get the best minds before us, and let's start working on this. All I can think is that the Legislature dangled out its concern during election season, and that was it."
Where is the urgency on the insurance crisis?
