Just days after President Bush publicly affirmed Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's job security through the end of his term, a family of publications catering to the military will publish an editorial calling for the defense secretary's removal.
The editorial, released to NBC News on Friday ahead of its Monday publication date, stated, "It is one thing for the majority of Americans to think Rumsfeld has failed. But when the nation's current military leaders start to break publicly with their defense secretary, then it is clear that he is losing control of the institution he ostensibly leads."
The editorial will appear just one day before the midterm election, in which GOP candidates have been losing ground, according to recent polls

Comments: "The newspapers are part of the Military Times Media Group, a subsidiary of the Gannett Co., Inc. The publications are sold to service members and their families."
From Skywise at Lucianne
they should be banned from being sold on military bases.
MSNBC/Richard Perle attack.
Exactly. They are so damn low, at a time of war when none of them have a plan or think they need one.
I'm telling you, if Gonzales or whoever had got off their asses and served the media and 'ex-experts' with sedition or treason charges from the beginning, we wouldn't have this problem.
I'm sure the mag will be filled with anonymous sources as well.
Please delete my thread, duplicate... thank you.
Banned? You don't think our military personnel can make up their own mind when reading other opinions?
Secondly, the Left, including MSNBC, have been carping about the lack of a "plan for victory". I suppose that this "plan" whatever it is,
a) should be set in stone, inviolate, unchangeable as situations on the ground warrant,
b) should be publicized for all the world to see, including the enemy
c) should be publicized so that John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Schmuckie Schumer, Carl Levin, Little Dick Durbin, Dr Demento Dean (that great military strategist) and Lard Ass Murtha can pick it apart publicly, ridicule it and, generally, make it useless.
Are people really that vapidly moronic that they can't see the absolute idiocy and naivety of this argument?
Thanks for the PING!, btw.
"...they should be banned from being sold on military bases."
So much for our Constitution, in your eyes, apparently.
Kerry thinks our soldiers are dumb; you want to keep them ignorant of the outside world?
Eh. I believe the military and their families are a whole lot smarter than these papers assume. And smart people know that the top dogs who shake up the status quo to keep us cutting edge are never going to win any popularity contests either.
>>they should be banned from being sold on military bases.<<
They can't do that.... but people who recognize this as a pre-election attempt by Gannett can point that out.
So they probably could draw the inference that the author of such an editorial is definitely not "one of us."
I would like to know actual source of the article. Maybe it was a pick up from a news service such as AP. As a member of the military for 50+ years, I know something about these publications. This whole thing sounds like a political opinion plant.
Good point. The left really does think our military is stupid. But, as we all know, stupid is as stupid does.
LOL.
I agree. For what purpose do you think?
Which is not to say there are not factions within the military that want Rummy out. But in general it appears to me that most of those come from folks whose fiefdoms are threatened. Am I wrong?
Rumsfeld for President!
I do remember, however, that we used to call it the "chicken little" newspaper because the sky was always falling on their editorial pages. It was read mostly for the listings of promotions and internal stuff like that.
Of course anyone deployed has already voted, so this is aimed at those who are not. I don't think it will change a lot of minds before the election but I guess the editors feel that every little bit helps.
I'm willing to think that our military is plenty smart and these newspaper editors might find their papers rotting on the shelf in the PX and commisaries. Don't anyone think this newspaper is military. It's civilian run. Obviously run by liberal's who think that the military is full of discontents. It's just not so.
"Army Times, Air Force Times, Navy Times, and Marine Corps Times"
Are all running this story Monday.
