I've been trying to find a spot for him too. I don't think he's finished. At least not in Virginia.

But I wouldn't relish a primary fight between Allen, Bolling and McDonnell. They'd have to cut a deal behind the scenes...or just not bother running and give it to the RATS.

I think bringing up Webb's kinky pr0n in his novels was a tactical error.

I told someone else last night that I completely disagree. I think if that hadn't come out and if Kerry hadn't misfired, we wouldn't even be thinking recount. Webb would've won by 3-4 pts. JMHO.

Allen DID pound the issues. But the MSM ignored them. And it was hard to debate Webb on issues, because all Webb EVER had was "I'm not George Allen and I'm against Iraq."

Because the man is not from one's state doesn't mean a person can't make an observation. Especially if that the man wants to run for president. He becomes all of our business. I remind you none of the liberal losers in my state have presidential aspirations. I voted straight Republican and worked to help Republican candidates so there isn't anything else I can personally do to "straighten out this hell hole of a state."

If you honestly believe Allen has a possibility of winning the Republican nomination then you are kidding yourself. If that touches a nerve so be it. Have a nice day.

If you're going to sleep through breakfast, you're going to miss a lot of mini-dramas.

The VIRGINIANS have been SCREAMING for months that this was not about 2008. It was about 2006.

And FReepers like you helped contribute to his loss with snide comments about how he's not Presidential material. For months I fought the exact same battles here that I fought with the socialists and communists in the blogosphere.

If that touches a nerve, so be it.

If you're getting this ping, you were on the Virginia Campaign News 2006/George Allen ping list.

I will continue to maintain this ping list for Virginia campaign news.

But if you'd like to opt off (and some already have), just let me know.

You can say what you want about the polls, but for the most part--the polls 'as a whole' were INCREDIBLY ACCURATE.

This race is particular was almost exactly where it was pegged--as were most races. There were few exceptions--where the polls were outside their margins of error.

Webb being a Veteran helped him cut into the GOP advantage in Norfolk and Va Beach. Also Webb's "Born Fighting" gimmick helped him in Southwest Va. These factors caused Allen to run behind Bush's numbers. To oust Webb six years from now, we need a veteran to hightlight Webb's expected liberal voting record.

Also it there any word about John Warner retiring? If Mark Warner goes for that Senate seat, it is an easy RAT gain. OTOH, if Mark Warner decides to be Hillary's Veep instead, then the Senate seat is a easy hold for Tom Davis.

I don't want to hear nothin' 'bout politics for the next three months. Heh.
Corin, you have done a splendid job on Free Republic and on your blog during this campaign.
I've got to get the flower beds in order and the house cleaned, the oil changed in the FReepmobile and a lot of little things I've been putting off.
I know we will all continue to pray for our Troops and new veterans. The person in our family who has taken this loss the hardest is our own Iraq War Vet (now in college). He is so concerned for the troops still there, the Iraqi people and the future of America.
I'll be lurkin'. God bless & Stand The Storm!
f.m.

Using a sports analogy Webb was looking past 2006 to his presidential run in 2008 and thus he lost both.

I may live on the other side of the Bay - but if you think I would want off this list, you will find out quickly just how long my legs are and how big my feet are when you get a boot of mine in your butt!!!

You've been a real trooper here, my friend, and have put up with a tremendous amount of abuse. Yes, you've had your missteps along the way and have lost your cool, but who wouldn't.....I know I could not have come back day after day as you have knowing what you would face.

You deserve a round of applause, Corin.

Also Webb's "Born Fighting" gimmick helped him in Southwest Va.

Not really. The only Southwest Virginia (and we're talking west of Roanoke) Counties that Webb carried were Buchanan, Dickinson and Russell (and not that wide a margin in Russell).

He didn't even carry his "home" of Scott County. Of course that's Kilgore's home as well.

As for Virginia Beach. Allen carried it 52-46. Kilgore lost VB last year.

My guess on John Warner is that he will decide to retire this time around. He's not going to like giving up his chairmanship and I doubt he'll want to gamble on a GOP re-takeover.

Aw shucks. Thanks ma'am.

And I wouldn't dream of taking you off the list. We elect 140 members of the General Assembly in just 364 days...

Okay, this is the part I don't understand.

I remember in Florida in 2000, military votes cast overseas had up to ten days after the election to be received and counted. Does Virginia have a similar rule?
If so, how many military votes are out there?

I'm not sure what the rule is. But the vote will not be certified until November 14 (or thereabouts).

I would anticpate that the miltary votes are included in the anticipated number of absentees. But they may not yet be reflected in vote count.

Either WTOP or WFLS (not sure which the car was tuned to at the time) said yesterday that the military ballots have until midnight of the Monday following the election to arrive.

It doesn't touch any nerve with me. He isn't presidential material and he has proven that. That obviously touches a nerve with you as you can't let it drop. I made a simple statement which I am entitled to do. If you disagree...FINE. You are entitled. None of it changes the fact he is finished on a national level.
