Problem is the religious branch of the part won't tolerate anyone who is libertarian. Just seems that way to me. If you say you are for embryonic stem cell research on this forum you are flamed within an inch of your life. I think this really hurt us at the polls.

If you truly think that the liberal-tarians are the core of the GOP, then why did the Dems pull out Foley in October to scare of the religious conservatives? Answer: Because the numbers o liberal-tarians in the GOP are negligible--almost irrelevant. There just happen to be a lot of you on Free Republic.

Have had a chance to see the election results or did you just get up after a 20 hour nap?

I didn't say libertarians were the core of the party for goodness sake. They provide a margin in close races like last night.

Without both factions in a divided electorate it is hard to win.

I am not a libertarian.

You don't have to be a libertarian to want smaller, less intrusive government. That issue has broad appeal. It's what swept the GOP into power 12 years ago, and the loss of that ideal is what enabled to Dems to sweep us back out.

The Republicans have already driven off their libertarian core, thus guaranteeing yesterday's fiasco, by their own antics (drunken-sailor spending, the Schiavo circus). Thus, the Democrats didn't need to lift a finger -- when you enemy is self-destructing, just kick back and pop some corn.
