The Democrats seem to have taken over the House. That means that, regardless how the cliff-hanger races in the Senate turn out, the key question is whether the Republican leaders will shed their arrogance and understand that they need to listen to the American people.
Even if recounts and razor-thin margins deliver the Senate into Republican hands by the narrowest of margins, 2006 is a major defeat for the GOP and only a fool would deny it.
In Iraq, obviously, America is delivering a message that if we keep shedding blood to battle for democracy in Iraq, the GOP will lose to the Democrats in the United States. President Bush has asked Americans for patience - but their patience has run out. They see a mess in Iraq and aren't prepared to put up with it any longer.
But if the GOP leaders in Congress had been steadfast to their agenda apart from Iraq, they might have done far better last night. It was, ultimately, their failure to produce when they held the White House and both houses of Congress that led to yesterday's losses. Had they passed Social Security reform, immigration reform and tougher measures for homeland security, they might have survived Iraq.
Instead, they squandered their lead through an orgy of self-indulgence and narcissism. The lobbyist travel scandals, the Foley affair and earmarking of funds for every last piece of pork in their districts cost the Republicans their virtue and their House majority.

He is batting 1.000 on this particular prediction, but .063 in general.
We must get back to our roots: Shrinking government, strong defense, a balanced budget, pay-as-you-go, reducing so-called "entitlements", assisting veterans, strengthening the family, etc...
and this, my friend is the major difference between Conservatives and Liberals. Liberals would NEVER utter that phrase. It would always be someone elses fault, or a conspiracy or Karl Rove.
Sorry, but the toe-sucker is right. Washington DC turns even the most idealistic politician into a cynical opportunist over time.
Now I will take a stab at it and everyone can be suspect of my conclusion. LOL!
I think it means way less about anything specific and way more about 1)human nature and 2)we are an extremely divided nation ideologically speaking and the rope simply gets pulled to and fro by the people who vote for dumb or self-centered reasons. What will this one give me? Or, who looks better on television? Or, whose ads do I like better? Or, who bugs me less in all the superficial ways a tv generation evaluates things.
I quit sending money to the Republicans when they wavered on Illegal immigration.....I said when the got tough..I would be back....
The truth hurts sometimes.

At 9:30 pm Pacific Standard Time last night on KRLA Los Angeles Radio...
...former California Gov. PETE WILSON predicted, with only 3 U.S. Senate Races left to be decided, that the U.S. Senate would go Democrat as well.
He even started using the term:
"..with a Democrat Congress.."
WILSON's reasoning was that in all 3 close State Races, it was Democrat-leaning or controlled areas left to be counted.

Morris was right. Republicans failed their conservative principals and failed to communicate the facts and stand on principal. Instead they allowed the DemoncRATs and media to define the issues and, ableit largely based on lies, were unwilling to correct the impression.
like a broken bone, we will most likely be stronger after we heal. we have some house cleaning to do and some reflection to do as well.
RHINO's out. Reagan/Goldwater Conservatives, IN
Makes me wonder. Several issues I have had lately ring true in this. I can't just turn and blame "ignorant" voters like a DUmmie would do. A little introspection, followed by a renewed vigor for the fight is in order.
But here's the rub. Democrats caught up in scandal like Jefferson, Mollohan, Menedez and even Harry Reid were all either re-elected soundly or potentially elevated to Senate Majority leader. The reason? The media all but ignored their scandals, (including the fact that Mollohan had to be removed from the co-chair position of the House Ethics Committee by the Dems. for rewarding campaign contributors with pork projects,) in some cases scandal more substantial than anything Republicans other than Duke Cunningham were caught up in.
Indeed, think of the sick irony of the NJ Senate seat where Jersites sent the absolutely corrupt Menedez back to the Senate despite being under criminal investigation and yet turned out the squeaky clean Mike Dewine in Ohio to pay for the sins of Ohio's Republican governor guilty of 4 misdemeanors including the petty failure to report sports tickets given him.
So if Americans were turning out Republicans over corruption, then they did so with an amazing double-standard and not just a bit of hypocrisy. It's unfair really when you consider Republicans largely dispatched with their sleazeoids while Democrats just hid theirs in a backroom until after the elections, expecting and exacting zero accountability from them.
But one has to credit the media with that for ignoring Democratic corruption while hyping even mere allegations or the appearance of wrong with Republicans such as a raid on Curt Weldon's daughters home that in no way suggests guilt. Yet Weldon lost. Jefferson, Mollohan, Menedez, and Reid on the other hand had a good night last night.
You may call that America showing righteous indignation. That such indignation was applied solely to Republicans I call absolute dysfunction and ignorance by an electorate increasingly brainwashed by the Clown Car Media.
Republican "leadership" didn't lead. They squanderd the power we gave them.
they we punished at the polls.
life goes on.
We can change it again in 2 years.
Persevere.
did you read the whole article? He is 100% correct (well, maybe 99.5%).
Morris was right. Republicans failed their conservative principals and failed to communicate the facts and stand on principal. Instead they allowed the DemoncRATs and media to define the issues and, ableit largely based on lies, were unwilling to correct the impression.
100% CORRECT!!!!!!!!
Wrong. It's National Security but it smelled like a mandate against illegal mexicans. How do you think most of the mexican immigrants got here? Standing in line at the courthouse? Oh yeah, I'm sorry. Oh, and I forgot that found backpack with muslim paraphenalia. That should have turned the election. what a laugh. The legal mexicans rebelled against Arbusto, so THAT didn't help the situation either. The christian mexicans will be on our side against the muslims in about 10-20 years in the mother of all wars, and we better get used to it.
