President Bush has done his part.

No one, including another great leader like Reagan, will be POTUS without running hard for the center. This will apply to the Rats and the Dims as long there is the absence of a massive terrorist strike and/or dismal economic conditions.

Dubya's win in 2000 was a miracle, and he knew what he had to do to make it again in 2004. It was the best we could have hoped for. Rush just made a tremendous statement: he no longer will carry water for people who don't deserve it- and he was talking about Pub's. It's time for preparation, personal and political, for the hell that the typically unconcerned and naive majority is once again about to bring down on all of us.

Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.


It's not an appointment. It is a nomination. There is no option for a recess appointment. In fact, such an event would require, I think, an emergency session of Congress, immediately upon the vacancy, if Congress was not in session.

Congress may pass increased defense spending, but at least half of the Democrats will vote against it.

Doesn't matter because most pubbies will vote for it. I think it's pretty damn clear that we need a larger military, and I think the more conservative Dems (including many of the new ones elected yesterday) will vote for such. And now the Dems have to have some ownership of the Iraq War, instead of just bitching about how Bush has handled it.

I don't see Cheney resigning. Historically, vice-presidents don't resign except for scandal or illness.

I don't think the veep is the resigning type. What reason could he possibly give, other than ill-health of a critical nature.

Remember, he stands between the presidency and second-in-line Speaker Pelosi if something should happen to George Bush in the final two years of this administration.

The results speak for themselves. Conservatives areas fell to democrats who ran on "my opponent rubber stamps for the president". Rummy resigning before today takes the argument away from the democrats, and most likely would result in our keeping, at least, the senate.

I think you get more mileage, and way more credit, hiring Condi Rice.

She's up to speed on the most important situation - the war and foreign policy, and it trumps Pelosi becoming House Speaker.

On top of that, she's more qualified than Rudy, though not the communicator that Rudy is.
