A bright side is that now House and Senate Republicans will learn from the Democrates how they should have behaved when they were Congress's majority party

Ya mean they dind't learn that from the Nixon years

It does seem that Stevens and Ginsburg are likely to retire before too long. With either of them gone, the Court would then be most decidedly conservative. So, Bush could hold out and keep putting up strict constructionists. The Democrats will look petty in their obstructionism.

All "W" has to do is NOT fill the Sevens and Ginzburg seats, or either one, and he has a majority on the court.

True. If BOTH of them retire soon, then that would be very good, even if Bush didn't get nominees through at first, because that would tilt the Court to the right. Just one of them though, and you'll be having lots of 4-4 splits. Hopefully we won't get another Kennedy-type as a result of the Dem's obscrutionism.

Well, I voted Republican, despite Bush having divided the party. Stop blaming everyone else BUT him and give credit for the loss where it is due.

Kimberly, the people who voted against such good conservatives as Allen, Burns, Specter and Talent are to blame.

I'd like to see the list in the House. Start with Weldon in California. I bet you their are a lot more Conservatives who lost.

As conservatives we should assign blame were it belongs. The voters who voted against conservatives.

He appointed Roberts and Alito. Do you have a problem with either of them?

Obviously. As someone else pointed out, when you have a resolution before voters in Downers Grove, IL, in very Republican DuPage county, to withdraw troops from Iraq, and it WINS 55% - 45%, you know people are pissed.

Agree with the war originally or not, the fact is we have to fight it now, because cutting and running sends the wrong message. Problem is, Bush administration doesn't, or didn't before yesterday, really want to fight it, because they were so afraid of offending CNN and the UN and the French. Bush talked a good talk, but never did what was necessary in Iraq. The reality is, if he keeps fighting the war this way, we will lose in Iraq. But we will lose a lot more troops than if we just pull out now. The best option long term option, however, is to actually let the troops do what they're best at, killing bad guys by the bucket loads.

"Tom Delay was just smacking Colmes upside his head about the corruption in the Dem party"

Just the person we need to be talking about corruption. I think both parties need to clean up their act.

So what happens when there is a vacancy on the Court in the next two years?

As Moose4 has been explaining on various VA/Allen threads, (or at least as I understand it) each Congressional District has a 'special' precinct for provisional or conditional votes. Those would be the ones not yet counted, but it could also be that certain districts don't have any provisional ballots. They may incorporate military votes not yet in .. the military are given a few days to get their votes in after the election.

Earlier I heard 1900 votes had been applied to the Webb column that were supposed to be for Allen, which is a good sized swing. Not enough to make up the difference, so Allen & Co. are probably praying for a few more improperly applied entries.

Heard it on the radiobox ;). From an investor saying Wall Street, for now, is banking on gridlock. He said it would start to tumble if the Rats start on the taxes and usual nonsense they love.

With Ginsburg and Stevens ready to retire, the voters look petty for voting out good conservative senators.

Bush might do the right thing and hold our for constructionists but one reasonably could ask why the hell should he care if the electorate doesn't?
