It would hurt indeed, if it were true.

But it's not.

And frankly, this Libertarian is damn tired of being called names.

If Libertarians are so powerful as to give an election away, if Republicans need us so much, perhaps a more fruitful tactic would be trying to find common ground, instead of insulting us and then wondering why we don't want to hang with y'all.

I agree. I brought up this point yesterday on other threads.

Every day on FR other than the day after an election:
"Ha! Libertarians! You clowns can't muster up more than 2% of any vote! What a joke of a party!"

FR after the 2006 election:
"You a-hole Libertarians cost us the election!"

Either we're so few we can be marginalized, or we're so many we can turn the tide of elections nation-wide. Which is it, Libertarian bashers? Because it can't be both. What a bunch of idiots.

If the GOP ever returned to its "conservation of Constitutional principles" stance the Republican party was founded on, the Libertarian party would evaporate over night.

Ain't gonna happen. The GOP loves its control and power over the Rights and liberties of the populace as much as the socialist Dems do. A return to untrammeled liberty would be devastating after they have worked so hard to bloody well trammel it.

I know why I don't typically hang with Libertarians, and I don't wonder why they don't want to hang with me. They hold too strongly to beliefs I disagree with too strongly. (The legalization of drugs comes to mind.)

"If Libertarians are so powerful as to give an election away, if Republicans need us so much, perhaps a more fruitful tactic would be trying to find common ground...

That is an emotional response.

The logical response for Republicans is to ignore you with indifference. There is no gain to be had for Republicans to have a relationship with Libertarians if it means personal defeat or electoral defeat.

The logical place for Libertarians to be is with the democrat party since you have the same goal. Consider it to be similar to throwing a bad girlfriend out of my house. It's a bad relationship when one person slithers around like a snake or sneaks around like a rat. That's finished forever exactly right here and right now.

Unfortunately we are being judged by the outpourings of the Rockwellians, just as all Muslims are held to be jihadists. The rest of us need to speak up more often.

No, you see, there's this magical pool of voters that's going to spring out of nowhere and vote Republican in '08. That's going to make up for getting rid of all of the libertarians and conservatives that we're going to cut loose.
