Clues to the new political landscape (Mitt looks to take Conservative lead)
Boston Globe ^ | 11/10/06 | Scot Lehigh

Oh, those purblind political analysts. That's certainly not what Mitt Romney spotted at play in the land. He espied a demand for Republicans to man the ideological ramparts.

"Americans spoke last night, and Republicans are listening," Romney declared in a statement. "Americans have not become less conservative, but they believe some Republicans have."

Voters, he added, "told us to move forward by embracing our conservative convictions that Americans agree with and value -- and we will."

A warped view of the political landscape for the Boston Glober (per usual), but I liked the quote from Mitt Romney.

Looks like Mitt is good at reading the political tea leaves.

I am one person who is sick and tired of Mitt Romney pretending to be a conservative.

RINO thru and thru.

I am quite surprised about the media admitting that
the dems ran as conservatives. I guess they need
to keep that up for a few more days. Then when
the sheeple stop paying attention, all bets are off.

The media will go back to oprah and the economy being great
now. People have hope and $2 more per hour in their pocket.

If you would have asked me a few months ago, I would have said "no way" to Romney. But I'm much more open to looking at him now.

I've liked what little I've seen of Mitch McConnell, like his fight against McCain-Feingold.. Does anyone know if he has considered running for president?

True and while he has certain conservative values, I'm inclined to agree with you.

That said, will look to support anyone OTHER THAN McPain.

I think I would prefer McCain over Romney, simply because I know what I'm getting with McCain.

Romney is so slick, one day he is for abortion, the next his staff declares he was just faking it.

He is the Republican version of slick willy.

He has a one word albatross around his neck no matter how conservative he might be or says he is- MASSACHUSETTS. The South and Midwest just will not buy it.

The MSM will be pushing him down our throats, too. We should run screaming from any candidate that the MSM is hyping. This doesn't mean that he wouldn't make a decent VP candidate.

Ok, so by your rules he's not a conservative.

So please put forth who, realistically speaking, is and is running for Prez in '08.
-Mike Pence is great, but he needs more seasoning (i.e. governorship---exec. level experience, IMO).

Of all the folks running for Prez of Republicans, Romney IS the most conservative, bar none.

Of all the prospective Prez candidates thus far proffered, he's the one. I'd not mind seeing a Romney-Santorum (other possibilities being Romney-Pence, Romney-Sanford, etc...) Imagine a Romney-ticket w/a Giuliani as the Atty General and McCain as the SECDEF. Can anyone offer a better start for an administration than that? (Other than the Gipper being reincarnated, that is)
