"WE are much more concerned with our sports teams...etc."

Frankly I would much rather have a well reasoned argument with someone who has very different opinions from mine, than talk with some idiot who doesn't even care. I guess this is why Maitlin and Carville got married.

<< It ain't over 'til it's over. >>

Until the massive electoral fraud that defines the "Democrats" is eliminated -- or Republicans will confront it -- it will always be over before it's over.

"Make it clear that WE are going to work for the people not the lobbiests."

I could never figure out how BUsh/Rove managed to get the religious conservatives and the big money guys into the same bed, especially after Enron, etc. and the Halliburton money questions in Iraq. Of course, in recent weeks we did see the religious wing of the party start to unravel. Tonight it was pointed out that in one state there was a strong vote for restricting gay marriage, and then these guys pulled the straight Dem lever.

"Medicare coverage and ads focusing on what was NOT given!"

I didn't see any of those ads, but a friend said on of the concerns was that Medicare was not allowed to negotiate with the drug companies for bulk pricing to be passed on the the Medicare recipients needing these drugs. I know that the VA must be doing something like this because we were able to get my husbands generic meds very cheaply.

Does anyone know more about this issue? My understanding is that this was considered a giveaway to the big drug companies, and made a lot of old folks mad.

I think we have to start playing good ol American politics which is DIRTY folks....

I often wonder though, do Pubs really WANT to win, or are they just doing what their masters want them to do?

"That bridge to nowhere Stevens guy."

I don't know details on the other guys, but the story that came out on Stevens (R Alaska) is that he did it for the Governor, whose female relative owned a large chunk of land that the bridge would connect to the mainland that would become very valuable once the bridge was built. You take cases like that and then throw in stuff like Foley, and it really looks bad. So I am for squeaky clean all up and down the line.

Wilson has declared victory as she is up 1600+ votes and there are only about 4,400 in-liue-of and provisional ballots. Midrid would have to get 75%+ of the remaining ballots and that is not going to happen.

Excellent news.

It will probably be Thanksgiving that she is declared the winner by the MSM.

Frankly I do not know.

I think the Democrats have 228 so far.

I am thinking we can end up with about 207-210

Maybe someone is keeping a closer tab on the final numbers?

J.D. Hayworth on Friday's Hannity and Colmes said they were still counting the absentee votes. His opponent is going to the freshman get-together next week.

People, relax. The ONLY thing that has to change is the GOP run squeaky clean candidates -- and find some scandal on Democrats -- and the result reverses. Pay attention to the exit polls. The #1 issue of voters was corruption scandals. Not conservatism. Not liberalism. Corruption. Get squeaky clean and the rightward bias of the US as a whole will return Congress to the GOP.

Yes, I think there was an element of 'throw the bums' out this election, although the only 'bums' thrown out were Republicans!

We lost in some close marginal districts that hopefully we can recapture in 08.

Thanks for the information!

I think anything over the 200 mark puts us within striking distance.

If Republicans win all of these contested races, it won't change anything

It will mean we have kept some good people in office.

You are correct about the leadership problem, we need a more aggressive, focused leadership.

Maybe that will be the silver lining that comes from this defeat, some good leaders coming to the top.

When a liberal bill is up for a vote, Pelosi will allow conservative Democrats to vote against the legislation as long as it doesn't jeopardize actual passage of the bill. This is so the conservative Democrats can campaign for re-election as conservatives. Every seat the Republicans gain is one less seat the conservative Democrats can use to vote against their own party.

Yes, the Democrats need a big majority to shelter their 'blue dogs' from liberal votes.

they cannot have them 'walking the plank' like they did in 93 for Clinton's tax increases.

The more Republicans we have, the less likely the House Democratic leadership is going to try to ran through radical legislation at the expense of their vulnable members.

When we were in charge, we had to consider the same thing in regards to our moderate Republicans in Blue States.

Thanks for the links! It doesn't look good for Hayworth.

It appears he is down by some 5,000 votes!

Don't forget that we got Clarence Thomas through a Democratic Senate.

Now that they are in charge, they might not want to seem to be petty and block things in committee as they were doing in the minority (with some help from RINO's)
