"Kerry got over 59,000,000 Take a look Over 122,000,000 votes cast in 2004"

I don't understand your post. What are you getting at?

You used small l libertarian. That is what conservatism conserves. liberterianism is the political theory of liberty. It does not refer to the Libertarian Party. A good number, 25% at least of the base R vote are libertarians.

Conservatives and Republicans are not interchangeable. Conservatives do not owe Republicans a vote unless those Republicans have delivered for them. The group that caused the Republican loss in this election was the REPUBLICANS, put the blame where it belongs.

Republicans agreed among themselves to NOT use any of the legal arbitrary powers of government to advance conservative causes or protect themselves and conservatives from Rat leftist socialists.

Republicans didn't want to win as much as the Rats.

Sorry, that should have been 25% of the population and ~70% of the base R vote.

The dems I talk to, especially women, say they can't stand the anti-evolution, pro-life, anti-stem cell, terri schiavo crowd.

Yes, I would expect that coming from deathocrats. The deathocrats are so stupid, that they think Republicans are "anti-stem cell research". I happen to think that human cloning is a little "frankensteinish". I don't care to fund it. Only a stupid deathocrat or losertarian would confuse the difference between cloning and stem cell.

They think they are nuts, and the US version of the taliban.

Here we go again. I expect a deathocrat to express more fear concerning a Christian than concerning a terrorist. The deathocrats and losertarians are simply anti-Christian bigots. They absolutely hate the idea of people following Judeo/Christian principles. When that man shot those kids at the Amish schoolhouse a few weeks back, I'm surprised that the poor deathocrats and losertarians were able to watch news coverage of all those terrible Christians. I personally thought that the Amish acted magnificently, but then again I'm not an anti-Christian bigot.

I agree.

Allow me to illustrate to you how incredibly STUPID the libertarian wing of the Republican party has acted. I am one of those terrible Christian Conservatives that you like to fret about. I think it's O.K. to question the "gospel of Darwin". I think Saddam Hussein is going to get a more humane execution than Terry Schiavo did. I am anti-abortion. In other words, I am your nightmare that is residing in the Republican party. But, you know what? Tax cuts are important to me, but it's not life or death. A balanced budget is important to me, but it's not life or death. And you know, I think the Republican party has not acted strongly enough to advance the pro life cause. So therefore, I think maybe I should sit out the election in 2008 just so I can show the losertarians! What do you think of that? Makes lots of sense yeah?

The people who didn't vote, decided in the favor of the John Kerry party. Nice. And for what? Over a balanced budget? It's disgusting.

Republican turnout was ultimately the deciding factor in the election.

Therefore, anyone concluding the Republicans lost because they didn't move to the center is dead wrong.

Republicans lost because they didn't act like Conservatives.

Everyone who is blaming the "conservative protest non-vote" is correct of course; however, denying the reality of human nature isn't going to fix the problem. We should be focusing on why the base was so demoralized that we now have San Fran Nan imposing her neo-comm values on the rest of us.

I agree with your assessment. I think it's very well reasoned and logical. The reason why I am on my rant against the losertarians is because I do not want them to blame others for their very foolish decision to support the party of John Kerry. And I am getting sick and tired of the losertarian fickleness.

I expect the deathocrats to vote against Republicans.

I expect the squishy middle of the roaders to vote either way, depending on the fashions of the day.

I do NOT expect Conservatives to support the deathocrats just to teach the GOP a lesson.

The losertarians do not get involved in the party. They do not go to the primaries. and then when some idiot like Lincoln Chaffee gets nominated, the libertarians freak out and shriek about how they're not being represented. And it never occurs to the little dummies that they should get involved in the party before they whine about it.

.. "true blue conservatives" were so upset with Republicans that they voted for the Dems and are happy that the Dems won.

It wasn't a big percentage of Republicans who were so demoralized they didn't vote.

I estimate it was about 5-percent.

But that was enough to give the win to many Democrats in close election, of which there were many in 2002, 2004, and again in 2006.

My Republican congressman got 55 percent of the vote in 2004.

On Tuesday, he got 49.5 percent.

"Facts and figures prove that Republicans lost, because many didn't bother to turn out and vote. "

Conservatives voted. They voted issues. Moderate Republicans and Democrats voted. They voted out Republicans based on the war. Liberals voted. They voted to put their party back into power.

Bottom line is, Americans living outside of NY, California, Chicago could care less about the war on terror because they don't see it coming to their little town. And the ones in those states care about terror, but they care more about what the government is going to do for them.

But Republicans and conservatives who didn't bother voting are directly responsible for the current Dem Congress.

Bullcrap. The GOP is directly responsible for losing. They gave little reason for voters to support them. They abdicated just about every conservative principle and then wonder why folks ain't motivated to show up for them?

Keep it up. Your blame-the-stupid-voter approach is a sure-fire way to keep the GOP in the wilderness. Newt Gingrich, who masterminded the GOP majority, puts the blame where it belongs - on those who were more interested in earmarks than conservative benchmarks.

Amazing that there are people on FR who are unwilling to put blame where it belongs. Just how much did spending increase over the last six years? Just how much did earmarks increase during that time? And just how many pubbies were tainted by scandal this time around?

If GOP control of Congress was so important, the GOP sure didn't act like it. They acted like teenagers who broke into mom and dad's liquor cabinet when the parents were away, instead of sober guardians of the GOP power base. To go hog-wild with earmarks during a time of war (and when we are borrowing to meet the cost of the war) is the height of irresponsibility. And such actions cast into doubt the claims that the GOP is essential for executing the WOT.

I agree with DB. And the more I think about what happened, I'm staggered by the consequences. We lost four sound conservative Senators: Santorum, Allen, Talent, and Burns. Their Dim successors will be safely in office for at least six years, and making up that deficit of 4 Senate seats is not going to be easy. The Dims may have a lock on the Senate for years to come. Good-bye to that last Supreme Court conservative that we need. It's simply a disaster.

Ditto on that, out of 4500 voters in my precinct only about 970 voted. Of those 970, about 65 percent are republican. It was a very poor turnout in precinct 347 of Austin, TX.
