Why the hate? Mel wouldn't be my first choice, but he does have the 100% rating from ACU. Despite the attacks on it in this thread the man isn't a RINO. I like Steele, but Steele is a RINO, remember the "off record" bashing he gave the GOP to the Post a few months ago. If you are a conservative than Mel is much better for you than Steele. Second MEl is also a sitting Senator, which means he won't be able to do day-to-day operations. He is a figure head design to attract some more Hispanic votes to the GOP. The key is who will be the number two man, and what are his/her qualifications.

That's funny!

Yep. Martinez got a 100 ACU rating for 2005 and has a 96 lifetime rating.
Excellent!
I think it's time for some folks around here to get a grip.
Give the guy a chance. Sheesh.

Okay...it was Salazar...thanks.

BTW....I still think we need someone FULL TIME, and energetic and dynamic.

Mel Martinez is none of those..and it has nothing to do with his race..or how he feels about immigration.

The Hispanics will naturally gravitate to the Democrats because they will give them everything under the sun.

Unless you are willing to compete in that arena, you'd be better to at least try to keep most of the zero-income folks out of our country.

It won't get us ANY votes to try to pass amnesty.

Absolutely correct. Steele was bashed on several threads.

I'm almost certain, Mel Martinez is temporary and nearly as certain that Michael Steele is going to get a cabinet postion so he will GOOD good for a VP choice.

The RNC chair was great under Haley Barbour, and maybe Martinez is good at attracting the big donors (employers of illegals). :)

I agree with have to appeal and feel much better after a few phone calls, but I still would like a fulltime head of RNC. That said I do like the guy that is going to run day to day operations.

I would have rather had J.C. Watts myself who is personable!

The GOP will not survive as a party of angry white Southern married Christians.

Excuse me?!? How about God-fearing, family loving Americans who couldn't care less about somebody's ethnicity but just want to live in peace without the government taking all their money and giving it to criminals?

It's not about conservative credentials...Martinez just doesn't seem to have the pitbull-like personality needed to get the party back into shape.

Oh yea, the no drilling anywhere near Florida Martinez. It's obvious now the direction the GOP wants to go and it's not Conservative.

The party Chairman doesn't set policy. He is a fundraiser and spokesman.

This is not the time to "give someone a chance". Do you know who he is? He is so so so boring, no personality, looks like a dork.

Just not what we need right now in the RNC.

Didn't we all think Howard Dean was going to be a disaster as DNC chairman?

I didn't. And he may use his 50-state organization to make a challenge to Her Thighness. His Lefties hate her.

The RNC job should not really go to a sitting senator

I'll buy that as an argument.

Except for a save the Rain forest tour of Puerto Rico, and a tandem appearance with Democrat Bill Nelson to stop drilling in Florida waters. Oh Yeah, he is out front on immigration reform, Ted Kennedy's version.
