Found the story as well -- I am getting more disgusted instead of less disgusted as the day goes on!

Martinez to become new RNC chief
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Mel Martinez, a Florida Republican elected in 2004, has accepted an offer by the White House to become the new chairman of the Republican National Committee, three sources tell CNN.

Under the arrangement, Martinez will remain in office and serve as the party's lead spokesman as well as take a major role in fundraising and political outreach, while RNC General Counsel Robert (Mike) Duncan will oversee the committee's day-to-day responsibilities. Duncan is serving his fourth term as a RNC committeeman from Kentucky and was also elected the committee's Treasurer in Jan. 2001.

Consider this one, though ... Mel resigns his seat to head the RNC and JEB APPOINTS KATHERINE HARRIS as his replacement!!! (Nah, I think there would need to be a special election and we all know how deep the bench is when it comes to republican Senatorial candidates in Florida.) Is this the day my W Oval comes off the car???

It's almost like the Pubbie leadership is completely unwilling to take politics seriously. They would rather keep the old guard in a minority role than bring in new blood to take back control.

How in the world can our leadership continue to make mistakes like this.. Mel is Cuban, Floridian, etc... but he cannot plan a picnic.. is not interested in or knowledgeable Re: economics, global commerce, key domestic issues and on top of it all... does not or cannot listen worth a darn to American hopes/dreams/visions.. has not had the capacity to actually hire competent staff (remember the insane staffing in his first year?)how in the heck can he possibly lead our party... has George gone totally nutz???

So the RNC is shooting themselves in the foot, only aiming much higher.

Sound Taps.

Or, as Dandy Don Merideth used to sing on Monday Night Football, "Turn out the Lights, the Party's Over".

At this stage in the run-up to the primaries in 16 months, this is a place-holder appointment. As the convention shakes out, the nominee will put his man in place for the run. Martinez is blah enough that no one (Mitt, Rudy, McCainiac) was against him.

Sounds strange for Martinez to remain in office AND serve in this capacity. Does that sent the wrong message on a number of levels or what?
