President Rudy Giuliani?
Forbes ^ | 11/14/2006 | Nathan Vardi

Giuliani has been carefully preparing for this moment. He spent the past election season accumulating a reservoir of good will among Republicans, campaigning hard for Republican candidates from Oregon to New Hampshire. He was particularly adept at raising money for those candidates and has established himself as one of few presidential hopefuls capable of raising the $100 million or so that is seen as necessary to win the White House. At the moment, he is getting help from Anne Dickerson, who ran President Bush’s highly successful Pioneer and Ranger fundraising machine in 2004.

Giuliani has allied closely with Bush & Co. He made a high profile speech at the 2004 Republican National Convention and has gone on the road to stump with President Bush. There has also been speculation, started by the Washington Post's Kathleen Parker, that Ken Mehlman, the outgoing Republican National Committee chairman and former Bush-Cheney 2004 campaign manager, will be joining the Giuliani camp.

The only good thing I can say about Rudy G. (politically) is that he has good leadership skills. He's not unelectable, he's just not my first, second or even third choice.

In 1983, Giuliani was appointed U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, where he earned a reputation for successfully taking on prominent white-collar crime cases. Among his most famous indictments were of junk bond kingpin Michael Milken and inside trader Ivan Boesky. Giuliani also dealt a blow to organized crime when he indicted Paul Castellano, reputed head of the Gambino crime family. Giuliani's record--4,152 convictions with only 25 reversals--is legendary.

I think Rudy scores big with conservatives when it comes to being tough on crime and defeating terrorism. I can't help but think, though, his social issue stances (especially on gun control and abortion) are going to be real problems for him. Rudy's personal foibles are sure to make the spotlight too, come primary season and/or a general campaign.

All just IMHO, though.

Personally I like Rudy, politically he stands for nothing that I can support.

There is something far more important.

He's not McKook!

Rudy can do and say things that are infuriating. His fault is that he is not party loyal. His strength is that he is not party loyal. Basically the man follows his own convictions and can be somewhat stubborn. He is probably the best leader of those running and that is why I admire him. Right now, he is my first choice after experiencing his turn around of NYC from a cesspool to the capitol of the world. Only took 4 years for Bloomberg to return to the status-quo.

One thing that would help us to win in 2008 is to support a 3rd "Green" party candidate.

Rudy Giuliani = pro-big government, pro-abortion on demand, pro-partial birth abortion, pro-gun control, pro-gay rights, pro-amnesty = liberal

Lets be honest. No subterfuge or obfuscation. There is really no evidence that Rudy Giuliani is any stronger on national defense and national security issues than anyother Republican in the poll driven field of possible candidates for 2008. All the names on the current list of possible GOP candidates are committed to finishing what we started in Iraq, committed to staying the course in the WOT, committed to our alliance with Israel, and at home fostering a strong homeland security effort. The GOP should be nominating the most conservative candidate, not the most liberal candidate.

He will not be president. Nominating Rudy will assure a Democrat win and destroy the Republican Party.

Then he could be a great A.G., but not IMO Presidential.

No Giuliani
No McPain
No Rice
No Powell (as has been suggested in a thread last night)

The search continues...

Rudy is an American guy. He has had his negatives out there for quite a while, and in retrospect, most of his warts are not all that ugly. Other highly respectable and capable individuals have been laid off to the side, tarnished by other than their own hand. George Allen, for instance, and Rick Santorum, both relatively young, personable, and handsome aspirants, with suitably good reputations as conservatives, were both bruised, beaten, and thrown to the curb in this recent election season, and "obviously", neither one of them is at all prepared for a run at the Presidency.
