"Let no one say we cannot afford to act," Annan declared

We cannot afford to act on junk science.

Graphic with world maps detailing the implications of predicted increases in global temperatures, as environment ministers from around the world gather in Nairobi, Kenya. Citing "a frightening lack of leadership" to tackle climate change, UN chief Kofi Annan has demanded world leaders give global warming the same priority as they did to wars and to curbing the spread of weapons of mass destruction.(AFP/Graphic/Martin Megino)

""The carbon market is beginning to lose confidence in this process," he said."

And this is the crux of the matter and why they want everyone to sign on.

It's not a 'saving the earth' treaty, but a 'money making' treaty.

If they were really serious about 'Global Warming' then selling carbon 'credits' between countries would never enter the picture.

Not only that, but how does selling carbon 'credits' help the environment?

It doesn't. It's a 'money' game. Plain and simple.

Yeah.

Why does 'Global Warming' seem to affect the north more than the south?

If it's 'global' the effects should be evenly distributed.

It's bunk.

I'll be so glad when I don't have to look at, or listen to, this dipshit. When is the next dipshit due?

"Global warming" prevention makes perfect sense only when you overstate the (imagined) benefits by a factor of 10 and understate the (very real) costs by a factor of 10. (Of course, that also ignores the point that the goal is increased government control rather than any environmental benefit.)

Change of climate may be happening, but human activities are not the cause.

The Earth is not a static environment. Never has, never been.

Global Warming is Annan's best gimmick for getting real power for the UN and taxing authority.

There is some IMO interesting discussion of these questions over on the Martin Wolf "Economists' Forum" on the Financial Times site, a forum where whatever topic is being published in the FT slot given over to Wolf or his guest author is discussed by a invitation-only panel of economists.

The Forum top level is here:

http://blogs.ft.com/wolfforum/

You usually have to scroll back a week or so to find a substantial number of comments on a thread.

Right you are.

Carbon tax, BTU tax, call it what you want, it's a centralized power and money making scam.

"Carbon tax, BTU tax, call it what you want, it's a centralized power and money making scam."

Yep. And if we ever sign on to this 'con', we are the ones that are going to be 'footing the bill' for the rest of the world because, since we 'pollute' more than any other nation, trading or bartering 'credits' won't be allowed.

It's the same old 'take from the haves and give to the have nots'.
