"Let no one say we cannot afford to act," Annan declared

We cannot afford to act on junk science.

""The carbon market is beginning to lose confidence in this process," he said."

And this is the crux of the matter and why they want everyone to sign on.

It's not a 'saving the earth' treaty, but a 'money making' treaty.

If they were really serious about 'Global Warming' then selling carbon 'credits' between countries would never enter the picture.

Not only that, but how does selling carbon 'credits' help the environment?

It doesn't. It's a 'money' game. Plain and simple.

I'll be so glad when I don't have to look at, or listen to, this dipshit. When is the next dipshit due?

"Global warming" prevention makes perfect sense only when you overstate the (imagined) benefits by a factor of 10 and understate the (very real) costs by a factor of 10. (Of course, that also ignores the point that the goal is increased government control rather than any environmental benefit.)

Global Warming is Annan's best gimmick for getting real power for the UN and taxing authority.

There is some IMO interesting discussion of these questions over on the Martin Wolf "Economists' Forum" on the Financial Times site, a forum where whatever topic is being published in the FT slot given over to Wolf or his guest author is discussed by a invitation-only panel of economists.

The Forum top level is here:

http://blogs.ft.com/wolfforum/

You usually have to scroll back a week or so to find a substantial number of comments on a thread.

It would cost the entire U.S. far less in the long-term if "entitlement reforms" are successfully resolved as soon as possible instead of nothing being done up to this point! I call it ironic when the political left feels the way that it does with the issue of global warming, but when it comes to all of the U.S. entitlement programs, don't change anything even when there's a need to do so asap!

I have a great idea, Kofi. Let's do a worldwide five year crash program to replace oil as an energy source. How do you vote, OPEC?
