Here is exactly why the War on Terror won't be won in the next few decades. A large percentage of Americans do not believe we're at war.

True, and you can count me among them, too.

You will never convince me that we are at war as long as these inconvenient little conditions remain in place:

1. Our elected leaders insist on using silly terms like "war on terror" instead of having the b@lls to stand up and name our enemies.

2. The U.S. sends troops halfway around the world to wage a so-called "war on terror" even as we permit nearly unfettered access into this country across our southern border and through our international airports.

3. People in government who bear an enormous responsibility for putting us at risk through either rank incompetence or direct complicity (I'll include people like Sandy Berger, Jamie Gorelick, and Richard Perle in this group) are never called to the carpet.

4. The initial "cal to arms" to the American people by this administration after 9/11 was basically a call for everyone to live their lives as if nothing had happened and to keep going to the shopping malls, car dealerships, etc.

You've really got to be kidding me.

Your four points are entirely valid, and instructive as to why so many people don't think we're at war. The government itself sends out mixed signals. Depending on how you interpret those signals, you can walk away with wildly different messages.

So, you can lay much of the blame at the feet of the government. Still, that doesn't mean we're not at war. Pointing out the failures of our government to get their act together vis a vis the war doesn't absolve us of the personal responsibility to be ready for it.

The al-Qa'ida offensive against us is a grassroots effort, not an official one, and the response will have to be, as well.

Ah yes the same old Macho Boy talk of the Know Nothing about Counter Insurgency Freeper Generals

Perhaps you might explain why the vast bulk of the forces fighting on our side currently are Muslim. You would make enemies of all them. That would be stupid.

We do not allow unfetter access via either our borders our our air ports. In all this Dinco hysterics about the Mexican border, it is interesting to note the Millennium bombers tried to cross the northern border and were caught. Meanwhile the 09-11 terrorists were people who over stayed LEGAL visas.

Other then poor judgment and mistakes, there is nothing you can prosecute people like Jamie Gorelic for. Here name is all ready a bad joke and her career over. Beyond that there is really nothing you can do to "Call them on the carpet" for being stupid and incompetent.

Terrorist try to disrupt their target societies. Going into WW3 mode after 09-11 besides being unnecessary would be stupid. That was EXACTLY the response the terrorist were hoping to provoke. Instead we are using the bulk of the Muslims to kill or break their rabid wack job faction. That is a job they will have to do since we have neither the blood, the treasure or the will to do it for them.

Way past time the Freeper Generals lean Counter Insurgency is not some Holliweird war movie. It is as much about the politics of the local society as it is military. Instead of screaming the same dogmas over and over and over, maybe the Freepers Generals should try actually learning some BASIC facts about conditions on the ground in Iraq and what we are up to.

I agree with your post regarding the lack of leadership. Rhetoric does not bring about victory in this war.

Political correctness must be removed from the order of battle. Decisive, overpowering force and the will to use it wins wars.
