Harriet Miers might be a nice person, but there is no record of her being the kind of deep thinker needed on the bench.

Exactly who said we need a deep thinker? I was and am tired of ivory tower eggheads deciding law on things they never experience.

Meirs was treated disgracefully by conservatives, and trashing her and the President hurt us. I elected GWB to decide who to put on the court, not Ann Coulter.

I don't care how she was treated conservatives worked 20 to get the supreme court and we deserved much better then some crony.and it wasn't just Coulter it was Maulkin...Rush...Will...Krystol...Krauthammer...pretty much everyone.... .If she didn't like the heat she shouldn't of picked herself...but then I'm no fan of "Chief Jorge Big Spender"

It wouldn't surprise me if the Miers debacle caused some Republicans to say "screw politics" and stay home on election day. The nomination set the base at each others throats in a way that the Roberts and Alito nominations did not. This was easily predictable and easily avoidable.

It is possible that she would have been a competent justice (though I doubt it), but it seems obvious that the nomination was a mistake, if only for the pointless infighting it caused.
