Afganistan and Iraq are not inextricably intertwined. The proper question is -- what would things be like had we gone into Afganistan, and stayed out of Iraq?

We would hopefully be using the 400 billion to protect our borders. I guess you could say that getting rid of Saddam was a wonderful thing so we won. But realistically the only way to truly win this war is to destroy the Muslim religion and how plausible is that. Do you just want to believe that there will be an American style democracy in Iraq ?
