Congress Open to Passing Bill on Immigration (Citizenship for 20 million illegals!)
The Washington Times ^ | December 4, 2006 | Charles Hurt

Congress will approve an immigration bill that will grant citizenship rights to most of the 12 million to 20 million illegal aliens in the U.S. after Democrats take control next month, predict both sides on Capitol Hill. While Republicans have been largely splintered on the issue of immigration reform, Democrats have been fairly unified behind the principle that the illegals currently in the country should get citizenship rights without having to first leave the country.

It is open knowledge that Bush was liberal on immigration issues.

The one thing that stood between him and amnesty is the Republican house, thanks to the efforts of Dobbs, Savage and others the Republican congress is gone and will be replaced by a Dem one.

So a amnesty program now will be most likely on Dem terms and you are right Bush can still veto it but he mostly likely wont do it.

Still if Congress had been under Republican control, no amnesty program would got through.

He was pushing a guest worker program, with the possibility of citizenship for some down the road. He has not been "pushing it for the last 6 years".

He was pushing it in 2001. Then 911 happened. He still almost got it passed, but Senator Robert Byrd (D-WVA) stopped the amnesty for illegals bill on a 'technicality'.

He tried again, with the Senate bill last year. That one passed the Senate, but the House members junked the amnesty for illegals bill.

Yaknow, I like WH Press Secretary Tony Snow. But it absolutely amazed me that his very first comment on the election results was that it would probably make it easier to pass immigration "reform".

I'm not surprised. I'd listen to his radio show and when talking about illegal immigration, people would call in and list the problems in border towns due to illegals to which he'd reply, "The economy's great." Every reply, "The economy's greeeaaat." Yep, that's all that matters. Nothing to do with crime, shut down hospital, voter fraud (although that will soon change!) massive amounts of people who refuse to assimilate or anything.

"..soon I'm not sure my tagline, which I've used since joining, will have much meaning anymore.."

You are SO right. Our country is circling the drain. Soon there will be "nowhere to run; nowhere to hide." All of those anti-Second Amendment people will soon see the error of their ways. Lock and Load!

The more I think about Senator Byrd the more I like him. Yes he is a pork king, but he is also an old republican (small r) of the first order.

That'll be a real deterrent to further illegal immigration won't it !

As one who did it legally I feel insulted.

It's looking more and more like the fate of this Nation will eventually go full circle and depend on the will of the people.

This is not an amnesty bill. This is immediate citizenship for everyone. It's not what he was "pushing for the last 6 years".

You ignored my second point of course.

"George Bush is playing right into the hands of the Dems and their amnesty plan."

Makes you wonder what party he really belongs to.

Democrats in both chambers say they will start with some form of legislation first drafted by Sens. John McCain, Arizona Republican, and Edward M. Kennedy, Massachusetts Democrat

Does it include $50 / hour lettuce picking jobs for American workers?

"Hey, but the border bots showed the GOP by staying home. Now of course they're going to squeal the loudest and blame the GOP some more."

You have something to support this ludicrous contention, Einstein?

They could all come in and immediately goes on SSI. They don't have US birth certificates, so they could all say they were 65.

"Immigration Reform"?

If the left was against this it would be "racist oppression".
