Senator gives global warming alarm a final cold shoulder

GOP's Inhofe, chairing his last committee hearing, says media has been alarmist

-- Washington -- Sen. James Inhofe, in his last hearing as chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, blamed Hollywood and the news media Wednesday for "hyping" the view that humans are causing global warming.

"It's unfortunate that so many are focused on alarmism rather than a responsible path forward on this issue," the Oklahoma Republican said.

California Sen. Barbara Boxer, who will take the committee gavel from Inhofe in January, shook her head and said it was sad that one of the last days of the 109th Congress was spent criticizing media coverage of climate change instead of working on legislation to curb greenhouse gases.

"In a free society in what is the greatest democracy in the world, I don't believe it's proper to put pressure on the media to please a particular Senate committee's view," Boxer said.

"My other sadness about this hearing is again we're arguing about who believes what rather than moving toward solving the problem," she added.

The hearing was a last hurrah for Inhofe, who has used his position as chairman to hold hearings to cast doubt on the science behind human-caused climate change and to assert his own view that global warming is a hoax. But, under Boxer, the committee is poised to shift course.

Thank you Senator for a voice of sanity in the sea of global warming lunacy.

Yes, Senator Boxer, much better to charge ahead solving problems that don't exist than to find some common understanding of what the heck it is you're talking about to begin with. If only the global cooling alarmists of the 1970s had been shut down, perhaps we wouldn't be in this mess? (/satire)

There is no global warming problem. Like Sen. Inhofe said, its a media creation.

The old "working on legislation" gambit. That's 'Ratspeak for passing new taxes. My guess is that passing a carbon tax will be the first order of business for dumb-as-a-Boxer-of-rocks.

Well Senator Boxer you added to that argument about who believes what by saying we werent moving toward solving the problem.

If there is no problem what is to solve?

I am sur that with you at the head of this committee the media will be knocking on your door daily to get the lastest the sky is falling view from you and your Democrat idiot friends. I am sure we will pay plenty to solve a problem that doesnt exist.
I would agree that cleaning up our air and cutting back on dangerous gases is a noble thought as long as you dont hand America's economy to someone else in order to do it.

I received an email the other day from a high school junior in Ohio who was researching a paper on global warming. I must have sent her a 2,000 word response. I hope that some of the issues I raised will cause this young lady to think critically on the issue and step away from the koolaid.

BTW: I said, essentially, that the entire global warming issue is a hoax. I gave her solid, layman term, explanations for why it is a hoax.

Right. Barb, you believe that there is a global warming problem even though there is no data to support it, and if there was global warming, you sure as hell are not smart enough to even attempt to solve it!

Boxer does not care whether it is a real problem or not. It is a political tool to be used to beat Republicans with, and is therefore valuable.

BTW, the United States is closer to complying with the Kyoto targets than any other industrialized country, with the exception of Russia. Russia is in compliance because their Soviet-Era economy collapsed in the mean-time. But every other industrialized country has seen their consumption increase at a higher rate than the United States, while they all the while mouth platitudes about saving the planet.

And don't get me started on India and China... Uncontrolled coal mine fires in China release more CO2 into the atmosphere than every US vehicle East of the Mississippi River.

Regarding Barbara Boxer, "and if there was global warming, you sure as hell are not smart enough to even attempt to solve it!"

She just might be smart enough to know she can't do anything to solve it. Not because she realizes it is largely either a hoax or a natural phenomenon, but because trying to tackle this would pit the disparate factions of the Democratic Party coalition against each other. If they placate the Greens, they alienate Labor. So I predict lots more hot air about global warming but nothing getting accomplished. Which is a good thing, nearly as good as having sane Democrats.

More property rights to be curtailed courtesy of Barbara Boxer and the California GOP who couldn't be bothered to run a decent campaign to dump this former Marin County supervisor.

I watched the hearing live. It was sad to see Ms. Boxer pitting her cookie-sheet deep mind against the truly great minds of men such as Dr. Gannett.

She was referred to me by a friend. You would have to ask the friend why she thought that was a good idea.
