Just was reported Johnson had an Arteriovenous Malformation. The AV malformation is a congenital congealing of capillaries and small blood vessels. They may manifest themselves as a bleed, and depending on the locaition and magnitude of the bleed, will declare the degree of debilitation. The surgery would be designed to stop the bleeding and hopefully stop the advancement of neurological damage. I have not heard whether or not the AV malformation was able to be resected. Sometimes they are so extensive they cannot be resected and pose a persistant problem.

I believe Joe Biden had this same problem in the late 80's.

Hope that Johnsons family and Senator Johnson the best wishes in recovery.

Is this a hairplugs-related problem?

I know nothing of the condition Johnson suffered from, but it doesn't sound like a full-out stroke or anyerism (sp?). God be with him and his family.

Just was reported Johnson had an Arteriovenous Malformation. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Confirm this fact is also being reported on radio broadcasts.NPR played the conference call as recorded and the verbal confusion suffered by the Senator as the medical event occured.( sic!)

The neurological damage of Asteriovenous Malformation can be similar to a stroke in which blood vessels rupture. The extent of the damage cannot be assessed until aftercorrective surgey, and in this case, will likely take a long time.

I feel sorry that he is caught in the middle of power politics, but the reality is that he likely will have to be replaced, and the Republican Governor will undoubtedly appoint a Republican, thus changing the balance of power in the Senate.
