"Al Ramsey Clark is going to have a hissy fit. Assuming treason is still a crime, there ought to be two ropes on that gallows.

You'd need a lot more nooses than that. No less than three if we just clear up just one case from 30-some years ago, for treason, conspiracy, and an accomplice/ orchestrator of mass murder.

"The death penalty appeals process is lawyer welfare.

Yup! The death penalty will guarantee at least several years of appeals, more appeals, and yet more appeals! All of it paid by the taxpayers for the lawyers to do this according to the "laws" to make certain there is no "hanky-panky" in the process!

And the poor prisoner gets to eat, sleep, and watch TVs (probably on Time Warner Cable), cigarettes, etc. We must not violate the "rights" they have.

Jeez!

It could happen in two weeks. Within a month doesn't mean it has to be exactly one month

The Sunnis are warning that his execution could lead to a civil war but according to the MSM I thought they were already there?

"Thats okay. A little after Christmas present is okay. No doubt our wonderful American left will also be sorrowful!"

It's right around the time of Ukrainian Christmas. So you may want to celebrate Christmas twice this year. Besides, there's nothing else to do in January except freeze and grumble as you gather receipts for the upcoming personal income tax time.

Good. There's one supporter of terrorists gone. Hello, Assad and Ahmadinejad. Are you paying attention?

" Well, usually. Personally, I'm planning on going outside and shooting my guns in the air in celebration when it happens."

That's a great idea.

FReepers: keep in mind that it's illegal to discharge a firearm in the air in most municipalities. If you're lucky enough to live rurally, have fun. :)

It still has to be approved by the Iraqi President who is opposed to the death penalty.

However, in the past he has deferred to his Vice-Presidents who are not opposed to it, and allowed them to sign the official warrant, a practice which has been upheld as legal in the past.

But whether he will defer in this case is not yet known. It's Saddam's last chance to escape the gallows within a month.

Talabani said he is USUALLY opposed to the death penalty but supports it in Saddam's case, due to his extraordinary crimes.

I think we ought to have our bombers lined up ready to fly over the cities where they plan to riot and just finish the war by obliterating all conspirators with Saddam. A few MOABs dropped in strategic places ought to help rid the world of Saddams loyalists...Sadr city would be the first bomb recipient!

Fine by me: justice delayed is justice denied.

Well, good.

As a Kurd, he'd have extra reason to sign the warrant.

And if he refused, he'd probably be signing his own death warrant.

That just might work. But I imagine there would be a terrible hissy fit by our new Congress. So... they won't. I think we all wish we would go all out and get this crap taken care of. If we could just keep the politicians out of it. They are incompetent.
