Yes! THIS was one quality that made him such a great man and a good President.

It was likely because he knew he'd never been elected to either of the two highest offices in the land. That doesn't mean he wasn't qualified for them, he just knew that he hadn't been chosen by a majority of the voters, in either case, so he didn't act like he had.
