This is long but this retired CSM lets it all hang out! This should be sent to every person in the USA and that includes the President and the rest of our country's leaders... I could have not said it better myself!! It's time we as Americans stood together!
J.D. got it mostly right EXCEPT his omission of the part about where the Commander-in-Chief is SUPPOSED to secure the borders of this country.
Failure to do so -- by Bush 1, Clinton and Bush 2 --almost certainly assures that the enemy is NOW within the gates.

He's right about Jimmy Carter. Not that he's responsible for it, or it was his intention in any way, but there is a direct linkage between Jimmy Carter's time as president, 9/11, and the world we live in today. Because of Carter, we had the '80's wars of Iran vs. Iraq and Afghanistan vs. USSR, the rise of al-Qaeda and the dominant power now in the Middle East, Iran (well, there is Israel, but they won't hurt you unless there is a solid logical reason to).
So, yes, indeed, if Gerald Ford had won that 1976 election, our geopolitical situation today would probably be much better. Or maybe just the same or even worse, who knows, but I tend to think not.

Great article. A little soft edged maybe, but nice.

Good post J.D.! You should have achieved the rank of a general.
Your opinions sound a lot like what General Patton might have said.
