Stephen Taylor, a conservative blogger with roots in the Conservative party, is reporting that Mississauga-Streetsville MP Wajid Khan will defect to the Conservative party, tomorrow afternoon.
Taylor said in his blog that, "Khan is expected to make a formal announcement tomorrow and will likely describe that he is switching parties because of the 'values' that the Prime Minister represents."
Taylor is one of the most popular conservative bloggers in the country and ran for the Conservative Party nomination in Kingston in 2004. He got the information from unnamed sources.
Taylor could not comment publicly on his report when contacted by The News.
The announcement triggered a denial by Khalid Sagheer, the president of Khan's riding association.
He told The News that he had talked to Khan two days ago and that the MP had given him no indication that he is prepared to defect. He said that Khan has been nominated by the riding association to run as a Liberal.
"I don't know why people have any doubts," that Khan will remain a Liberal, he said.
Mike Crawley, the president of the Ontario wing of the Liberal party told The News that he is "not aware that it is true," that Wajid Khan will be defecting to the Conservatives.
Khan triggered speculation that he would cross the floor to the Conservatives when he accepted a post as special advisor to Stephen Harper on the Middle East and Afghanistan. After the appointment was made he remained in the Liberal caucus.

Reminiscent of Ghengis?

In Before the Picture of Kirk!!!
Dang, you're fast!
"KHAN!"
I did not.
Aren't Canadian Conservatives to the left of the Dems here? No offense to Canadians meant, I regard true Americans and Canadians as true Conservatives.
Now if Carolyn Parrish went Conservative, THAT would be news!
"Canada" bump. Or: Khan-a-da bump.
Canadian Conservatives (with Harper as leader) are to the RIGHT of your Republicans. At least in my opinion. Then again, I make Rush look like a commie.
Always wondered what happened to Chaka.
As a Canadian Conservative (British Columbia), I can state that Harper is our best prime minster ever. I would welcome Khan into the fold, as well as another 10 Lieberals who are conservative.
Our base and MPs are about as conservative as the Republican base on most, but not all, issues. However, as of late, our MPs are showing a bit more spine than our Republican counterparts. LOL You guys will need a Harper or Howard in 2008. Sorry, but we have none to spare. LOL
Try reading smalldeadanimals.com or bloggingtories.ca or freedominion.ca or borque (Canadian Drudge). Our conservative blogging community is, well, pretty small....
If this is true, Khan would be the first and only sitting Conservative MP from the Greater Toronto area, correct? The Tories need to make some inroads in the GTA in order to get a majority government the next election - especially if gains can't be made in Stephane Dion's Quebec.
