Just ask the states of WA and NH, both northern states. It's still an established form of capital punishment in those states, and was in several others until recently.

Maybe the harrassment was going the other way for some time before this happened, if in fact it happened the way these guy say it did, and if in fact it was INTENDED to be racist (because a noose is NOT an inherently racist symbol).

We had a noose-sighting-in-the-workplace in our city of Jacksonville, FL. Two black firemen, I think, came into work and each opened his locker to find a noose hanging inside it.

Investigations, allegations, charges, etc.

Turns out the two men both repeatedly failed lie detector tests. The whole thing was bogus. Lying Bs made it all up for the money they thought they'd recieve.

You make a good point. These people carry this stuff to the nth degree of ridiculousness. They have no right to control somebody's speech by picking an idea, a word, a picture, or a symbol and deciding they want to take offense and then getting a fat payday off it so they don't have to work again.

Being offended is a choice, a First Amendment choice, and nobody else should be forced to kowtow to somebody else's choices as it pertains to speech.

What if someone was contemplating suicide? What makes a noose racist?

Are you saying the drive-by shootings are the result of a noose being hung up somewhere? If not, then your anecdote makes no logical sense. And why would people so disposed to violence themselves be offended by an EMPTY noose?

Was it before or after Saddam was hanged?

Vigilantes have used the noose for hundreds of years on white men. Many more whites have swung than have blacks, including in lynchings. Yes, blacks were lynched, but the noose itself was merely the preferred method for disposing of people of any color. It was the official form of the death penalty since the Mayflower landed, and widely used in vigilante justice throughout the country.

Next it'll be trees that are offensive because the ropes were thrown over the branches of trees. Then will come the lawsuits against rope manufacturers.

The whole complaint is argumentum ad ignorantium.

The hypodermic needle should be the ultimate symbol of racism.

Before he was hung but after it was known he'd be swinging with the 72 virgins pretty quickly.

Before he was hanged but after it was known he'd be swinging with the 72 virgins in short order.

This whole thing was a petty contest between a few individuals. The complainers are usually the ones who start it, thinking someone wouldn't retaliate.

In our feminized society, some liberals expect others to be passive in the face of adversity, especially when they are the ones who are the initiators of harassing behavior.

I have observed it a million times.

There is a can of worms...

Liberal-tarians will howl about the illegality of drugs, and liberals want governement to pass those things out for free...

These things are more often hoaxes perpetrated by the alleged victim than any real attempts at intimidation.

I, too, have seen it umpteen times.

Some race-baiter starts something, and when he or she gets it back, they snivel to some governmental authority, often through some NGO, about their rights, blah blah, just like any typical school-yard bully does. They're weak, greedy people whose only experience with true racism is that which lives in their own hearts.

I have a friend - really very nice if very liberal - who has an authentic noose hanging in his living or dining room - I forget which. He thinks it's funny - but it gave me such a case of the creeps I pleaded with him to take it down. Just not funny.
