Gas Smelled Over Large Area Of Manhattan
WNBC ^ | 1-8-06 | WNBC

YORK -- People all over a large part of New York City are smelling a gas, and it's not clear where it's coming from.

Numerous people have called 911 concerned about the odor. Con Edison, the Fire Department and the U.S. Coast Guard are investigating.

PATH service has been suspended into the 33rd Street station. Service is still going into the World Trade Center station.

Macy's department store has been evacuated, according to reports.

There also are unconfirmed reports of a similar smell across the river in New Jersey.

People between Midtown and Battery Park are reported to be smelling it. At NBC headquarters in Rockefeller Plaza, the odor is very strong. One person who works on the sixth floor at 30 Rockefeller Center says it's so strong people are leaving the building.

At one major office building at 37th and 7th, employees have been told that Con Edison is looking into a smell, and they should remain inside until they hear otherwise.

Mayor Bloomberg is expected to be asked about it at a 9:30 briefing with the media.

Now there are a bunch of dead birds found in Austin Tx and part of the city is blocked off. Very strange!

Tinfoil anyone?

Hillary doesn`t have to fart. There are so many liberals in NYC blowing hot air the entire island of Manhattan should float into the stratosphere.

Do you still smell it? I just came down to 37th from 100th and didn't smell (or hear) a thing. Finding out what's what on FR, as usual.

Shortly after 9am, the building I work in was evacuated due to the strong smell, particularly in the lobby. The smell was not noticeable outside. After some time we were told to go back in the building. When I went downstairs later, around 12:30pm, I didn't notice the smell.

Other city offices had been affected as well and the mother of one of my colleagues called and said she could smell it up in Bergen County.

Is it a big deal or not? Are people still concerned about an attack or not? If they are, then why don't they care about the war on terror? What gives, Pappy?

The only terror attack we've received so far (9/11) was correctly identified as such pretty quickly. In contrast, the now inane "Nothing to see folks, move along" sarcastic post has been made 1,000 times on FR, and each times indeed it ended up being nothing. Yet no matter how many times these paranoid cynics' ignorant prognastications prove to be wrong, they still return each time to insist that if she floats, she must be a witch.

Example (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1498353/posts and elsewhere) was the OU Stadium Bombing. The kid blew himself up outside the OU game two years ago...the kid with volatile explosives in his apartment ...the one whose roommates were indirectly connected to other interesting characters that show up in the 1993 OKCity Bombing and 9-11...the one that was a muslim convert that went to the same mosque as some of the 9-11 perps in Stillwater attended...

The local authorities exploded a number of bombs in the area of his "suicide". A security guard swears the kid tried to gain access to the stadium of 84,000 of a nationally televised NCAAF event several times with his backpack of goodies. He was turned away each time.

The kid killed himself with a volatile bomb pack next to a biology lab. These are all facts that were reported by the police and witnessed by local and filed with the local news.

Then the ATF took over the investigation. Some media outlets began reporting the ATF's new story: No suicide--it was an accident. No bombs found beyond the kid even though the police stated they removed bombs from the stadium before the ATF and FBI enetered the investigation. No explosives in the apartment even though witnesses and local police stated explosives were removed and the residue was found everywhere in the apartment. No connections to Pakistani radicals he associated with even though he lived with them (in an area off campus known as Little Tehran), dated them, and hung out at the mosque with them. And furthermore, even though Hinrich most definitely converted to a radical sect of Islam, the ATF/FBI/former Dem Senator David Boren said he wasn't a muslim. Then the feds ruled the whole thing an "accidental" explosion.

Then, all evidence was sealed by the court as EYES ONLY.

This NYC thing may not be a terrorist plan...I agree with that assumption...but to make the statement you made here is patently absurd. There have been terrorist activities in the USA after 9-11 and the govenrment, for whatever reason, has covered up the incidents. If it's to protect ongoing investigations, etc. that is well and good. But don't say it's never happened. It's happened.

BTW, I'm the furthest thing from a tinfoiler/paranoid cynic.

If Elizabeth is a place, certainly Josey can be too.
