3 homes destroyed, 8-10 acres burned, over 100 firefighters on scene trying to stop the fire from spreading. The biggest worry is the high winds predicted for this evening and into tomorrow.
The location is a little south of Pepperdine University.
The fire started near Pacific Coast Highway and spread towards the beach.
These homes are right up on the beach.
Malibu, January 8, 2007 - A fire fanned by Santa Ana winds burned three structures as it spread over two acres Monday, authorities said. About 100 firefighters were en route to the blaze at West Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Road, said Los Angeles County fire Inspector Ron Haralson.
It was not certain what type of stuctures were ablaze, he said.
Winds were blowing at 21 mph when the blaze erupted about 5 p.m.
TV news helicopters broadcast scenes of a large area of flame blowing down seaside slopes toward shoreline homes. Winds appeared to be blowing the fire toward the ocean rather than up into the coastal canyons.
Red flag warnings had been posted for much of Southern Calfornia due to the siege of gusty north and northeast winds and low humidities.
