CONTROVERSIAL mufti Sheik Taj al-Din al-Hilali was today urged to "keep his mouth shut" as Muslim groups distanced themselves from his latest shocking comments.
NSW Community Relations Commission (CRC) chairman Stepan Kerkyasharian branded the mufti's outburst outrageous, though Foreign Minister Alexander Downer said nobody took the sheik seriously any more.
Sheik Hilali said in an interview on Egyptian television that Australian Muslims were more entitled to be in the country than those with a convict heritage
He attacked Western values and said: "The Western people are the biggest liars and oppressors and especially the English race."
Kuranda Seyit, executive director of the Forum on Australia's Islamic Relations (FAIR), today said the comments were the sheik's extreme personal opinions and did not represent the views of the majority of the Muslim community.
"I would like to reiterate to all Australians, including our people of Anglo-Saxon heritage, that there is no substance to the idea that Muslims have more of a right to Australia than the early settlers," he said.
"We are all Australian and we should all respect and support one another as Australians."

And this is the "leader" of the muslim community down under?
Western refers to culture, not race (or people group). What a crazy man. Kudos for his fellow Muslims attempting to shut him up, if they disagree with him, and not if they are only opposing him because he threatens their existence in Australia.
So what does CAIR, er FAIR, suggest? Ignore him? Rebuke him? Pretend he doesn't exist or have any followers? Expose those who spout such hate speech and shun them?
But.., but.., he was just telling the truth. That's really what they believe!
