Nicaragua's President-elect Daniel Ortega said in Managua on Thursday that he is enthusiastically waiting to welcome his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad due to arrive the country on Sunday.
During his sworn in ceremony in the capital city of Managua, Ortega made the remark in a meeting with the invited Iranian delegate headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister in Europe and America affairs, Saeed Jalili.
Ortega called the Iranian delegation's attendance in the nauguration ceremony and Ahmadinejad's decision to pay a state visit to Nicaragua as an honor for his country, and termed it a milestone in Tehran-Managua ties, Iranian Embassy to Mexico reported.
He expressed hope that during Iranian President's visit to his country, the Latin American states could negotiate with him on the different issues and they could discuss the ways to more expand the two countries' cooperation in the fields of mutual inter est.
According to the report, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister congratulated Ortega for his coming back to power as the country's new president after two decades, while expressing Iran's readiness to make contributions in the country's reconstruction process of its infrastructures in general and in energy and electricity sectors, in particular.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed different grounds of mutual cooperation in economic, technical, and engineering services in Nicaragua and also the two nations' requirements.
The Islamic Republic of Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, was due to start his 4-day Latin American tour, having in his agenda strengthening Iran's relations with Latin American states and also conveying Iran's congratulation message to the three le ftist presidents of Venezuela, Nicaragua, and Ecuador for their new terms in office.
Ahmadinejad's visit to Nicaragua and Ecuador is the first one of its kind made by an Iranian president to the countries.
In a separate meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister, Saeed Jalili, the new Nicaraguan Foreign Minister, Samuel Santos, assured that his country was determined to materialize a "deep and solidified cooperation" with the Islamic Republic of Iran in international arena.
He said that the plans for cooperation would be negotiated during Iranian president's Sunday visit to Managua, a momentous event in the bilateral relations.
The Nicaraguan Foreign Minister also said that Sandinists' coming back to power opens a new chapter in the country's relations with Tehran.
Despite dissatisfaction over some American officials, we are keen to expand our relations with Iran, he added.
Welcoming Ortega's victory in Nicaraguan presidential elections, Jalili expressed Tehran's readiness to expand its relations with the revolutionary government in Nicaragua in all respects, and urged for discussing the grounds for trilateral cooperation w ith Venezuela to help Nicaraguan new government to overcome their problems.
He pledged that the upcoming visit of President Ahmadinejad to Latin America is regarded as a big and effective step toward all-out utilization of existing potentials to boost the two nations' cooperation.
