Damn right he knows it -- I'd be shaking if I were him, too. I'd bet a month's salary Nifong was shaking too in his self-imposed exile. Even if he's not disbarred, any defense lawyer worth his salt will use what happened in the Duke case to maximum effect -- which, on balance, is a bad thing other than in this case because it might result in the acquittal of defendants who are, in fact, guilty as sin.

This is the point that I think the White House should have been making all along. Saying and/or operating on what you believe to be true is not lying. It can be incorrect information, and it was, but there was no lying.
Lying "for the good of the party" seems to be OK for communists, Dems and Islamists. Thus, they do not understand an honest President.
For Pres. Bush to have allowed himself and his administration to be called liars for years without defending themselves has caused the country a great deal of harm. Think of all the time wasted on just the "16 words."
When Brodhead was at Yale a conservative professor there was charged with murder - and even though there was no evidence and the fellow charged had an alibi (sound familiar?) Broadhead joined other PC faculty and the neighborhood rabble in the bandwagon of accusations:
Yale administrators did not care that there was neither evidence nor motive linking Van de Velde to Jovin. Her body had been found a half-mile from his house. Just as at Duke, Brodhead spoke eloquently about the principles of due process, but moved to subvert it.

Brodhead is a coward. He has the spotlight being shown on his sleazy actions and he is squirming, indeed.
I doubt your husband would recognize the man, whose been indoctrinated with NY liberalism, today. GWB is used to Pelley's caustic comments during pressers but he's strong enough in his convictions to face them head on.
As for granting an interview to a fellow Texan, would Begala be given the same opportunity?
You have also hit on one of the things that makes Nifong's failure to interview the accuser until many months after the indictments were issued such an egregious act of professional misconduct -- these cases often turn on the credibility of the complaining witness. For him not to have taken that into account before indicting the students is unpardonable.
Personally, I think the alums of Duke need to go after the guy and all the faculty that backed him up.
Interesting to see the "60 Minutes" treatment directed at Nifong.
Nothing in this piece about the "single mom college student" and "Navy vet" forced to strip to support her family and pay tuition, or the "privileged rich jocks" and their "entitlement mentality."
Also nothing in this piece about the Gang of 88, the female black professor resigning from the university committee arising out of this case, the New Black Panthers, etc.
Very smart for the DNA lab director to get out there and take his lumps in the media - he's done his best to shift the focus back to Nifong. Worst case for him is probably an ethical slap on the wrist and some lost business for a while.
The court will probably find that the 6-month delay in releasing exculpatory portions of the DNA report was not materially prejudicial to the preparation of the defense, since the trial has not even started, although it would certainly warrant granting a motion for postponement of trial. In any event, the new prosecutors will probably interview the accuser, review the evidence and drop the remaining charges of kidnapping and assault.
Nifong will probably get a serious reprimand from the state bar, with perhaps even a suspension of his license to practice for some period of time.
I still think a private lawsuit by the defendants against Nifong or the City of Durham has little chance of succeeding, although the agreement by Nifong with the DNA lab not to share the exculpatory portions of the DNA report makes it a much closer call on a motion to dismiss a Section 1983 claim. I think in order to succeed, the defendants would need a smoking gun as to improper motive by Nifong (e.g., a statement by Nifong to a police detective or someone that he wants to "get" these boys in order to win re-election).
But just think if Ms. Mangum had just been a little smarter in picking out defendants and getting her story straight at the beginning. Since the DA was quite prepared for his own political purposes to railroad these boys with no DNA evidence, they are quite lucky her story was so inconsistently put together and her choice of defendants so poor.

No and why should it?
Like sharks in the open ocean, they are top-of-the-food-chain predators, without fear of retribution from anyone for errors, sensationism, negligence or unabashed lying. And they know it.
I'm taking a break from all news, unless forced to watch. I really can't handle it any longer. It just makes my blood pressure go up, and my goal for this year is to get as healthy as I can...
