Nuclear Blast on TV's '24' Causes Fallout for Fox (PC crybaby alert)
ABC News ^ | 1/15/07

"How much longer? I hear someone," says the nervous terrorist with a heavy Middle Eastern accent, just before U.S. agents storm a warehouse where a nuclear device is being assembled. Confusion reigns, drama builds, the device is detonated and a mushroom cloud looms over Los Angeles. Such is primetime television in the age of terrorism, or as some critics charge, has "24" gone too far?

"It's the closest television comes to roller coasters," said David Bianculli, television critic for the New York Daily News. "It works well dramatically, and as far as feeding fears, that's what '24' is all about."

Sut Jhally, co-producer and co-director of the film "Hijacking Catastrophe," says the dramatic action in the show creates a dangerous climate in which the public loses some of its perspective on what's real and what's not. Of course that may be a minority opinion given the show's enormous popularity.

Well it might be simple for a great mind like yours. I believe you said you like to watch paint dry. I think Bob Ross re-runs are still on.

"If someone comes to your home, and threatens you family with harm unless you deliver a package, agree to leave but instead of delivering a "package", stop by your local Walmart, buy a .3006 hunting rifle with a scope and shoot him through the living room window.

Such a thought would never, never occur to the wimpy liberals, who would have never gotten into trouble in the first place if they didn't go out of their way to prove how tolerant and non-bigoted they were.

And leave it to the TV critic to deliver the real zinger. Bianculli believes Fox is more manipulative with its product placement than anything else. "In CTU headquarters — which is information central — they are always watching Fox News," Biancilli said. "Now that is ridiculous."

Yeah.. They would be watching ABC news... Right. If Palmer is a Democrat, he would NEVER watch FOX.

Now you can add:
21. Whenever Jack Bauer rests, a nuclear bomb goes off.
22. Revelation of Jack Bower: Chapter 13:1 And, as the first seal was removed, I saw as it were, Jack Bauer retiring forever, and all hell broke loose. This is the beginning of the Apocalypse.

in both cases, the left was beside itself.

Nowadays, in all cases, the left will be beside itself. The reason is called: Bush and the legacy of winning.

To the left, the USA doesn't even come close to tenth in their priorities.

I sincerely think that the left has no "USA" in their priorities, not even their thoughts. Unbelievable!

It's interesting that Canadian Kiefer Sutherland, unlike the Jack Bauer character he plays on "24", both isn't American and has what amounts to an impeccable far left personal pedigree.

Both his father Donald Sutherland and especially his mother Shirley Douglas continue to be active in socialist causes. particularly in Canada, where both enjoy almost Kennedy-like celebrity, come royalty, status among Canadian reds.

Shirley, who is pretty much a full time leftist troublemaker presumably thanks to generous alimony from her Ex & because her 'acting career' never really went anywhere of legitimate significance, at least comes by her anti-majority extremist views honestly as she's the daughter of Canadian all round crank & socialist icon Tommy Douglas (Kiefer's maternal grandfather).

One has to hand it to the sly Kiefer though: while he routinely speaks of his parents & grandfather in glowing terms & has apparently never publicly repudiated any of their views, just try to find any documented reference whatsoever to his own politics!

PING!

Suburban dad should have at least changed the DIP switch settings on that trigger device or something. He couldn't have figured to have been allowed to live, could he?

And to drive the anti-Semitic/anti-Israel conspiracy freaks crazy, the name of the hero of 24 is Jack Bauer. Bauer is supposed to be the original surname of the Rothschild who first adopted the name Rothschild, according to Rothschild conspiracy lore. Meyer Amschel Rothschild was Meyer Amschel Bauer, so the story goes.

Who knows if it is true, or if anything anyone says about that family is true. There is so much "advocacy" and propaganda and just plain fantasy out there on the Internet. Heck, the same goes for newspapers like the New York Times.

In the pre-cable days, one network did a pretend NUCLEAR POWER PLANT MELT DOWN! simulated tv show.

I saw that one! Saturday Night Live. I think they called it "The Pepsi Syndrome."

Ummm,

This is so funny. ABC griping about the content of another network's offerings. I guess they think Gay, Straight or Taken and American Idol are the answer to the world's poverty and ills. What a bunch of drama queens.

I told my wife I would have stopped by the Best Buy and substituted a ATI video card for it.

"In CTU headquarters — which is information central — they are always watching Fox News," Biancilli said. "Now that is ridiculous."

Ridiculous? That a TV network would only show its own news logo on its own programs?

Something I noticed in the last season--every car that had a close-up of the detail was a Ford. This season. Ford must have dropped its "hidden advertising" because I'm seeing Pontiacs, Jeeps, even a Toyota!

There's a Ford commercial in the closed captions at the beginning and end of each episode.

Dear SoothingDave,

Actually, if I recall correctly, President Logan was originally President Keeler's Vice President. Keeler came after the first President Palmer (if I recall correctly, I think that President Keeler defeated President Palmer in the latter's bid for re-election, but I'm fuzzy on that), but was killed off toward the beginning of Season Four, with Vice President Logan ascending to the presidency as a result.
