Nuclear Blast on TV's '24' Causes Fallout for Fox (PC crybaby alert)
ABC News ^ | 1/15/07

"How much longer? I hear someone," says the nervous terrorist with a heavy Middle Eastern accent, just before U.S. agents storm a warehouse where a nuclear device is being assembled. Confusion reigns, drama builds, the device is detonated and a mushroom cloud looms over Los Angeles. Such is primetime television in the age of terrorism, or as some critics charge, has "24" gone too far?

"It's the closest television comes to roller coasters," said David Bianculli, television critic for the New York Daily News. "It works well dramatically, and as far as feeding fears, that's what '24' is all about."

Sut Jhally, co-producer and co-director of the film "Hijacking Catastrophe," says the dramatic action in the show creates a dangerous climate in which the public loses some of its perspective on what's real and what's not. Of course that may be a minority opinion given the show's enormous popularity.

The family was right to intervene at that point.

Tell that to all the families who lost loved ones when that suitcase bomb went off in LA! Well, you know, all the TV families who lost TV loved ones.

That was the end of the episode. You'll have to tune in next week to find out what happens or text "Jack" to some number on your Sprint phone and get a preview of next weeks show.

There was also the part right near the end of the article where this show was seen as an attempt to increase fear to justify an attack on Iran.

Have never watched the show but maybe they were building nukes for electricity only.

Exactly! Nuclear energy is unmitigated evil only when done by a U.S. utility. When it's a North Korean or Iranian dictator, it's just peachy.

So how is it that while the show's concept is each season is a 24 hour period in Bauer's life that the show has progressed several years in its run? Do they skip entire years or presidential terms between seasons?

>professor of communications at University of Massachusetts. "Given their propaganda system, it doesn't surprise me."

Given that title, and att that institution, his statement is the apex of hypocrisy

I thought Drudge's headline meant that 24 was shut out of winning any awards.

The line above it states the ratings for the Golden Globes were 50% better than 24.

However, I think the ratings are increasingly unreliable. It has been a long time since I've watched a show live. I record 24 so I can review it to see what the hell just happened?

One thing's for sure, no need to worry about the other 4 nukes. The one man who can put them together blew himself up.

Since 911 failed to wake up a large portion of the US into the fact that we are at war which includes almost the whole Democratic party, how could they be so bold to suggest that a TV show would make any difference.
One of the questions 24 raised with me is what is the possibility some terror group could actually access the sattelite network like they have this season? Any Freeper experts out there have some ideas on that?

And his sister is an ACLU lawyer.

Actually it's some type of CAIR-like organization...so she's a civil rights for Moslems lawyer...and I love it how her boyfriend (who also works there) wanted to saty locked up to get information about the baddies being held. He was an example of a good and loyal immigrant!

All the whiners quoted in the article come off as crybaby, sour-grapes, delusional moonbats upset more that it is the FOX network that has this popular (because it's so damn good) show rather than one of their "propaganda" channels.

Here in Canada the sweetest thing about it is the fact that last night 24 aired opposite Little Mosque on the Prairie. After the way the CBC trumpeted Little Mosque's ratings last week I can't wait to see the numbers now.

I thought ABC would like the show's depiction of vigilante white men throwing Muslims into concentration camps.

"Sut Jhally, co-producer and co-director of the film "Hijacking Catastrophe," says the dramatic action in the show creates a dangerous climate in which the public loses some of its perspective on what's real and what's not."

Well then, please, pull the plug on all television and movies.

It's completely plausible. Any system controlled by computers and networks can be hacked.

"This television show is very political, and it's no accident that it's on Fox,"

So far the "politics" are 3 to 2 Liberal:
3: Karen Hayes and Wayne's sister (bleeding hearts crying about Muslim civil liberties), and gullible family protecting Muslim neighbor
2: Racist neighbor going after Ahmed; Curtis trying to kill Fayed (with good reason)
