The guys on the radio this morning were bringing up a host of different analogies including indentured servents and the Chinese who were brought here to build the railroad.
An interesting point, and analogy, that was made about why apologies should NOT be made, is that it opens the doors for lawsuits. The analogy of what would follow was to liken it to the tobacco lawsuits where only the lawyers and a few high rollers (they menitoned Jesse Jackson) would see any money.
I saw that coming that's why I called for reperations, and I want the Minnesota Vikings to change their name too.
This is kind of fun.
I'm second generation from a sharecropper family.
My family never sought apologies.
I don't think we would be who we turned out to be if they sought apologies.
I even think my Mama Nome embraced her past the way she told us stories.
In this case, the effect would be particularly destructive, as it would help confirm the victimization psychology, which has ruined the lives of many members of minority groups over the past two generations. To appreciate this point consider the terrible harvest from the "Civil Rights" movement shifting the focus of Negro Americans from the upbeat, self-improvement and legitimate pride in accomplishment psychology of Booker T. Washington, to the blame game, demands for subsidization and special laws and programs psychology of today.
This change in mood--in psychology--has almost destroyed the institution of marriage among the poor; has led to generation after generation on welfare; has sent up the crime rate and led to hostility and resentment, which makes working well with Whites more rather than less difficult. I have no idea why anyone in the Virginia Legislature would want to feed this cancer. They need to take a deep breath and reconsider.
