re: disparaged blacks and Jews

That by itself is grounds for having serious doubts about this man's fitness to serve in a legislative body. The fact a distant relative owned a slave is completely irrelevant to the story.

I am really tired of hearing how badly politics have slipped into the gutter and always hearing it from a Democrat whose party led the charge into the gutter.

disparaged blacks and Jews

Did they accuse him of disparaging "blacks" and Jews? (Link to article didn't work for me.) If so, then we can add "slander" to the list of charges against race-baiting demagogues OLYMPIA MEOLA AND PAMELA STALLSMITH.

"re: disparaged blacks and Jews"

Well, he said that blacks, who were never slaves, of course, should just get over slavery and move on. It ended 140+ years ago.

He said apologizing for slavery would be like asking Jews to apologize for killing Christ, which would be ridiculous.

Calls to his office are running 20-1 in favor of his comments.

Are you aware of what he actually said? ...be careful not to take the word of such a media outlet regarding the nature of his words. I actually agree with the comments he made about today's blacks not being slaves and the condition having ended 140 years ago. I did not think he dispareged anyone except people who are absoultely politically motivated in seeking to use race as a divisor in todays political environment...and that's why they are outraged about it. He is attacking one of today's liberal's bedrock institutions, much as Alan Keyes, a black man himself, has done for years.

A good read in this regard, regardless of how else one may feel about Keyes, is his book, "Mastering the Dream", which is an excellent expose on how the left particularly uses race to pander votes and economically subjugate people to the welfare state, convincing them they are owed something and therefore ensnaring them in govermental dependancy.
