In the coming years American Jewry will face the most significant delegitimization of Israel it has ever encountered, Malcolm Hoenlein, executive vice-chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, told The Jerusalem Post on Monday.
This will occur, he believes, as the blueprint developed at the Durban Conference on Racism in 2001 is implemented by anti-Israel activists in America.
Hoenlein is expected to deliver this message to the Herzliya Conference on Tuesday, in a speech titled "The Poisoning of America," along with recommendations for action on the part of American Jews and Israel to help fight what he sees as a growing threat to support for Israel in America.
"Right now we enjoy the broadest support for Israel than perhaps at any time since the creation of the state, about 70 percent of the American people," he asserted.
Nevertheless, he insisted, "at the next Herzliya Conference we're going to be discussing how this could happen, how this cancer was allowed to spread to the United States."
The process Hoenlein sees happening in America is similar to what occurred in Britain, he said, "where the elite in society were turned against Israel. The fact that [Harvard and University of Chicago professors] Walt and Mearsheimer couldn't publish [their study claiming overwhelming influence of the 'Israel lobby' in Washington] in the United States, but had to go to the London Review of Books," was telling, he believes.
Now however, Walt and Mearsheimer "have a major contract, and are anticipating sales of one million copies."
In addition, "sales of [former US President Jimmy] Carter's book [Peace Not Apartheid] have been topping best seller lists."
"What was once acceptable on the fringes is now acceptable in the mainstream," he said, concluding that "at times, the American Jewish community has to [exercise] greater assertiveness."

Two things need emphasis. One, is that left-wing intellectuals are leading the pack. Another is that the new antisemitism is hopping on board the anti-racism bandwagon to legitimize itself.
How can antisemitism be loved by those who condemn racism? Because Jews are being removed as a designated victim group. They no longer fit into the multicultural basket. This author traces the danger back to "the Durban Conference on Racism," a coalition of black African, third world, and Muslim nations, together with self-loathing Europeans, who are scratching each others' backs and are more or less congruous with the UN as presently constituted.
So you might say that Kofi Annan and Desmond Tutu are joining to say that it's OK to be antisemitic, because the Jews are racist, colonialist oppressors of the heroic, downtrodden Palestinian people.
Not terribly logical, perhaps, but that's how I see their tiny minds working.
Israel may lose the "elites," but they'll always have us "Bible-thumpers." There's a lesson there.
What is really amazing is their support of the Dems.
Yes, but it astounds me that U.S. Jews in large part continue to vote for Dhimmocrats despite the virulent anti-semitism...
of course it is- it's precisely what is prophesied in the bible- not the U.S specifically, but the world view overall. It used to be people listened to the word and knew that standing with God's peopel would gain th4e blessings of God, but that is apparently no longer the sentiments- Are we close to the end? Lots of signs lining up- can they be resolved? Sure- even those in Pauls day thought the end was near- these signs may be somethign, they may not- we'll see- but the middle east does seem ready to explode with the bear of russia hot for domination too.

Many of them may be surprised to learn that the many groups who wish to persecute and murder them will be just as happy to target secular and liberal Jews as they will the orthodox and conservative Jews.
For such an otherwise brilliant people, they sure are dim when it comes to knowing who are their friends and who are their enemies.

It's amazing that that today's Fundamentalist-Evangelicals, who didn't even exist in the ancient world or Middle Ages, are made the scapegoats for chr*stian anti-Semitism while the churches that were actually responsible get a free pass.
My own personal theory as to why Jews (especially secular Jews) don't encourage (to put it mildly!) the philo-Semitism of Fundamentalist/Evangelical chr*stianity is that it has nothing whatsoever to do with J*sus and everything with the fact that they don't want to be associated with the Bible (the racist, sexist, homophobic, heterosexist, ant-scientific, and speciesist text of West Virginia snake-handlers).
There is no more a democratic left (if there ever was one, in spite of the contradictions). The left nowadays are red fascists.
