(Jan. 25, 2007) - Helicopter in-flight rescue crewman, Aviation Warfare Systems Operator 2nd Class Marko Vignjevic begins his rappel from an MH-60S Seahawk search and rescue (SAR) helicopter during a training mission in the North Cascade Mountains. The Naval Air Station Whidbey Island SAR unit's primary mission is to rescue aviators on land or at sea. (Jan. 27, 2007) – On the flight deck aboard the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) Sailors man the rails, as final preparations are made for getting underway for deployment. Ronald Reagan and attached ships of the Reagan Carrier Strike Group (CSG) surge deployed to the 7th Fleet Area of Operations from Naval Station North Island on Jan. 27. Surge deployments are part of the Navy’s Fleet Response Plan (FRP), which ensures ships are able to respond to real-world situations by maintaining high states of readiness during their surge windows.
